I didn't care. They don't prohibit pictures for some sanctity reason. They do it because when they took a bunch of money from Japanese businessmen to restore the frescoes, the Japanese had the rights to photos and videos. After those rights lapsed, the rule stuck around to sell photos after the tour.

The key is to hold your phone discreetly at your waist level in video mode and then screenshot later just to spite them.

That movie was a complete letdown from the book.
