How are New Orleans prices still going strong after all these years after Katrina? They’re not a huge real estate market city and they seem to be doing great
Because demand outstrips Supply.
New Orleans is a waterlocked city.

After buying/selling several homes in north DFW, I say “so what?”
Every time I buy, I’m told that it’s a seller’s market.
When I sell, I’m told it’s a buyer’s market.
The last house I sold was in a solid seller’s market but then I’m told that the hot market is in less expensive homes and not in the price range I was in.

Ya you could have held onto your Detroit home as the neighborhood crumbled around you. I'm curious with inflation, taxes, and maintenance what the math would look like.

I’m hoping the housing bust hits Toledo Bend soon. A damn 2,000 sq. ft house on the lake is half a million bucks!!!!!

Many people in late 20s to early 40s who couldn't care less about home ownership. It is becoming less and less a status symbol. It is just too complicated for some.
Less people getting married and more divorces.
The divorce rate has actually decreased with Gen X and Gen Y/Millennials.
The divorce rate last shot up when the Baby Boomers created the midlife crisis.
The divorce rate among Baby Boomers has exploded since the '80s and '90s when Boomers created the midlife crisis because they realized they'd never get out from Daddy's WWII shadow.

Austin has a slew of affordable neighborhoods. These posters love to use the dumps in east Austin going for $600,000 as a metric for the whole city

In a subdivision down the road from me in Baton Rouge new houses are sitting empty and unsold. They are asking 700k. I went to an open house and the builder told me on the side that he would take 70k off the listing price. He seemed pretty motivated to sell he had 4 unsold houses in this neighborhood. It seems the market in BR is stagnet.

Baton Rouge seems to have slowed down big time. Tons of neighborhoods still being built or approved to be built. Houses sitting everywhere for sale.
It’ll be interesting to see if BR can handle the oil drop and interest rate rise.

All I know is that Amazon is coming to DC and I live about a mile away from what will be HQ2. Not complaining one bit.

That’s what happens when oil money dries up. Y’all happy now?!

True, but this is happening everywhere. Nola, Houston, Nashville, Charlotte. There is an entitlement mentality as well.

I’m about to move to the Seattle area from Nola. Any suggestions ab living in Tacoma or Columbia city?

The price on houses right now is horribly high. These 1800 sq ft DSLD homes going for 225k with half arse construction is asanine.

frick yeah. Now I buy.
Those stupid McMansions have been overpriced for years now.

I'd suggest Columbia City way over Tacoma. It's a cool area, close to Seattle and on the light rail route, pretty good location overall.

Part of the problem here in D/FW is that builders aren't building brand new starter homes. All they build are these 4-5 br monstrosities. Theres no place for a young couple to break into the market in a new home.
