So Iowa was #1 last year. What caused them to fall 13 spots?

Virginia and West Virginia - 7 and 47. Is there a way to just split up a state like that?
Well Lincoln got away with it because the Civil War was going on.

Yeah I'm sure all of the poor illegals that can't speak English have nothing to do with it

I don't care what US News and World Report says about anything else, so why should I care about their prejudices against Louisiana?

You're right. It probably has nothing to do with the top ten having the least amount of culcha and the bottom ten having the most.
It's almost like demographics matter more than some subjective grading criteria used to push a narrative.

8 of the top 10 states were blue in 2016. 13 of the bottom 15 were red. Makes sense.

Are about as white as they can be.

Overlay the maps
I have.
But this map also indicates that just because you have Hispanic/Black average above the mean does not necessitate that the overall quality of life has to be poor.
Texas and Florida are quite well off overall. And states like Kentucky and Tennessee are noticeably well off despite counties have similar demographic breakdowns to Mississippi and Louisians.
I'm not saying demographics are not a factor. But they are a secondary factor compared to state government and economic interests.

he was at a party once and when they learned he was from Texas they asked him if he moved to get away from the lynchings
i told him, I thought you had no idea what we were planning
oh we had a good laugh at that one

With a GDP of $524.323 billion, Washington came out on top. The state’s economy is largely boosted by the aerospace industry and the military and defense sector, which “employs the second-largest number of people in Washington,” according to the report.
I know that Louisiana is near last in almost every measurement, and it drives me crazy because I feel like there’s so much potential here with the mouth of the Mississippi at our disposal, along with access to oil and gas, hunting and amazing fishing both inland and offshore along with the fore-mentioned festivals, etc.
BUT, on another point...am I translating this correctly? If you siphon enough taxpayer money off of the nation to DC and then inject enough of it via the MIC back into a specific geographic area that is beautiful and has many other desirable traits, you can create and stimulate a strong local economy? What do we need to do to get in on this?

This is the main reason VA and MD are so high on the list.
