YouTube suggested a video about UK debt recovery. I got sucked into a few videos. The way they get their money just would NEVER fly in the US.
The first lady owed her "Solicitor" (lawyer) £6000. These guys showed up with a writ. Then went right into her house. Said they needed half the money now or they were taking her TV, furniture and mom's car.
Apparently in the UK when you have a debt they have these "bailifs" that are privately paid to recover debt or occupied buildings. (The better videos are them clearing out Squatters)
I just never seen anything like it. Here we have debt recovery with phone calls.
The ability to just enter your house and take your stuff.
They have more rights than the police.
one episode of a show about UK bailifs
Former Mob enforcer Shaun Smith, fresh out of prison now works as the UK's "scariest" debt collector.

That's what you can get away with when you keep the populace disarmed.

Another one a middle eastern shop owner owes $1000 electric bill. Guy shows up saying he's taking product or money. The shop owner locks him in the store.
Spoiler the guy got the money in the end. I'll give them credit. They are effective. They make it impossible not to pay them.
They have the right to seize assets.
One guy racked up debt with a LLC. They wound up getting money and making him personally secure the debt. Losing the llc protection. It's savage but effective.

When I worked at the shitty finance company, the old school finance guys would tell us stories like this.
If someone was dodging them, they'd walk down the deadbeat's street screaming his name "JOE SMITH WHO LIVES AT 123 FIFTH STREET DOESN'T PAY HIS BILLS! JOE SMITH IS A DEADBEAT AND HE OWES ME MONEY" Inevitably, the guy would run down the street to pay the finance guy to shut him up.
Or repossessing a kitchen table, but waiting until dinner time, so the family has to watch the finance guys take the table right before they're about to eat.
I witnessed my branch manager kick a window unit out of the window on the second floor, so it smashed to pieces when it hit the ground. We had it as collateral on a delinquent loan, but he didn't want to bother with taking it back to the branch to sell it. So he just broke it so the delinquent customer couldn't use it.
I have so many wild stories from working there, when I think about it, it hardly seems real.

It's like one almost needs a Bill of Rights to keep the Brits from being Brits. Red Coats gonna Red Coat.

UK and their property/debt laws are so odd. I suppose its how most of the world works outside the U.S. Ownership only extends to the point you can personally protect/enforce it.
UK you don't actually own property (land). It's all on a 100 years lease from Her Majesty. Learning that kind of blew my mind.
So in the UK you can have a "freehold" but its never really yours, yours.
Like if it becomes vacant due to your death (without claim by your legal beneficiary) or abandoned it reverts to the Crown.
Another reason in a long list that the US is the best country in the world.

Man, I’m conflicted.
I don’t like siding with government goons, but I can’t stand squatters either.
