I just read this whole thread. And while it is entertaining, I can’t seem to figure out why you’d want 50 starburts, instead of 50 starbursts.

That's not as fun as seeing people upset they can't make 500k/yr because they don't have the right last name

If that were true you would just be sitting back watching and laughing, not embarrassingly "defending" river pilots from all the meanies saying not nice things about them.

I would also get into the fact that its possible to have that "fun" while presenting actual arguments to support your position. In fact in would probably increase your "fun" because it would get people even more involved. But theres no point, because its obvious someone of your intelligence level just isnt capable of doing 2 things at once.

Can we at least acknowledge it’s unabashed nepotism?

Not really, unless you have a family member that is river pilot it is not a career path most people are even aware of, and since the training starts with specific college education requirement it is not something you just decide to do when you are 25 or 30 years old. Because of this it is easy to understand why most river pilots are one because someone in their family was a river pilot. For the record I am not a river pilot, and don't know any river pilots, I just became interested in it because it was a job I had never heard of.

In some instances. Especially if the person has been taught the skill since he was old enough to walk.

You and ThatMakesSense have to be trolling.

You think these pilots are drawing river bottom maps and shite over a bowl of Cocoa Puffs with their 3 year old?

If a pilot is in an accident and at fault, they can be disciplined and fired.

Why do they make so much more money than Airline Pilots, who usually DIE when they have an accident.
And are most definitely fired if at fault and survive.

Actually that is one of the tests, drawing the river with all turns, marking depths, locations of bars and other obstacles.

Yes. That's the required river knowledge.

I’m not at all qualified but am fun to hang out with and am willing to go back to school.
