Because a medium sized ship can carry $100 million worth of cargo easily.

You conveniently cut off the part which illustrates his point.

While 500K is a ton of money go watch some youtube videos of river pilots boarding a ship in high seas, I wouldn't do it for any amount of money.
High seas in Pilottown?

What in the world could you possibly not understand?
His point was that they aren't drawing up maps at the breakfast table with their 3 year old.

Tonight’s headline...Les Miles loses control of Coach O’s river pilots. Details at 5, 6 and 10.

What's the value of 100 passengers on a 737?
Posted on 4/3/18 at 12:52 pm to mikelbr
That's not how it works. The pilots can't make more than the value of the ticket sales or the airlines wouldn't make any money. There is a hell of a lot more money in the maritime industry

You're totally right. I haven't heard of the phenom river pilot at age 3.

Nah. The fact is you have 100x's FEWER pilots in the Merry-time racket.

90% of all global trade occurs on the seas. Essentially every port in the entire world requires a pilot. What is your point again?

Value of your life to Airlines
Time article I just found. They don't value your life.

That river pilots(NOT THE captains floating across the ocean) make 4 times as much as airline pilots due to the the artificially created supply/demand imbalance protected by government sanctioned barriers to entry.

The maritime pilot industry is a racket. Govt protected industry and a farce.

No doubt. I remember touching on this in ole B-Law at LSU. Everyone assumed their family would get millions of $ if he/she were killed in a plane crash or at fault of a big company.
That's a great link.
