I didn't say the kids thought that.

I haven't met a dedicated travel ball parent yet who doesn't think their kid will be a superstar at LSU on their next CWS team.

I see it on Facebook too. Parents paying tons of money for QB and speed coaches, shooting coaches, batting coaches, etc. Some dudes I am friends with post constant updates like their kid is a 5-star recruit, and literally no one comments or cares.

Out of all of my friends, only one ever had a daughter who became a D1 athlete, and she is at LSU now. He didn't even pay for all the training coaches for her. She was just gifted from the start.

The women in the article is what I typically see and base my comments on.

There are plenty of dedicated travel ball parents who are not selecting their kids agent or getting their NIL demands ready. The ones that are just drown out the majority.

We do not have a single parent on our team that believes that, Our kids all started out playing rec tee ball at the same place. Most hope they have a SHOT to make the high school team. And we are a Major team in the top tier of the state.

The others are out there. We played a Houston team last year with kids from Arizona and Cali on the roster. There is a Baton Rouge team in our age that has kids from New Orleans, Hammond and elsewhere recruited in..

My kids are grown, but i find these threads interesting.

Just like the price of food at restaurants and most everything else. the consumer has all the power, they just don’t understand it.

My main complaint with all the travel ball bullshite at the youngest levels is (besides it being clearly a money grab by the orgs) that it gives the kids nothing to look forward to.

Every tournament gives out rings. The uniforms are better than what most high schools wore two decades ago. There is nothing to work toward, nothing to accomplish. No build up.

In general, there are no 8 years olds that need to be traveling to different states to play baseball. And the population of high school age kids that truly needs to challenge themselves against national competition is much smaller than these travel orgs would have you believe.

Rec ball and american legion should be way more popular than they are.

My child did travel volleyball. It was expensive but she loved it. And I got to take a bunch of trips with her. The experience was fun. We knew there would be no scholarships. It was worth it to me.

That's only travel ball leagues. What is wrong with Little Dribblers and Dixie Youth Baseball, both of which are inexpensive? Very few kids on travel ball are going to play college ball. Especially basketball so paying thousands for travel ball is crazy.

I know the guy who owns 2D sports and he is making a killing.

little dribblers is travel basketball

there is little league around and its about 150-200 per season in SLC

as far as the OP goes....you dont have to be on teams that go to Pigeon Forge or Cooperstown dreams. Those are the two most expensive trips you can do in travel baseball. literally you know that is 10k per team to enter at ripken and its 1300 per player at cooperstown dreams. The only other one that is that expensive is ball parks of america in branson. not to mention these are all end of the year world series events...if you cant afford it, dont go. or do a team raffle or something of that extent.

nobody makes you buy the most expensive bat. you can buy a brand new Catx alloy for under $100.

as far as baton rouge goes.....

1) 95% of baton rouge area teams never leave baton rouge and never travel more than an hour except maybe once a year.

2) if you plan on making a HS team in the BR area....you better be playing travel. Its still not a 100%. but you arent going to make a catholic, a live oak, any of the AP teams by playing 10-12 rec games a year and maybe 20 practices if you are lucky. sorry the game has advanced way past that now

now if you live in a small town, you can get away with not doing travel. middle of nowhere cenla....sure. but the metro areas....yea good luck with that.

oh and dixie youth dismantled because they had all kinds of issue with embezzlement etc. pretty much not even a thing in LA any more

and there are only 4 or 5 rec leagues in the state that go past 12 now. so you have to play travel at some point. and if you only play rec up to that point...yea good luck making a travel team that isnt the lowest of the low.

exactly. in the end you are allowing your kid to pursue their passion to the best of their abilities and if they want...allow them to pursue the sport in HS. nothing more, nothing less

now as far as the OP goes....I do not agree with going in debt or allowing others to pay for your kid to play travel baseball. play it yourself.

but im also not going to concern myself with the way others spend their money, just dont ask me to pay for your kid

but the lady in the op is stupid....she is whining about paying to send her kid to the most expensive baseball tournaments in the united states. all of them end of the year world series that are nothing more than a great experience.

my kid did both the ones she mentioned. they were amazing trips and experience...but i can promise, the one tournament didnt help my kid get better. we did it for the experience. Luckily Cooperstown was paid for by the billionaire backing the team we went with.

Its simply because parents dont want to do it themselves. Work with your kids on basics, fundamentals, and strength and conditioning. They will excel at any sport.

Lazy parents pay. Child learns VERY LITTLE because he isn't developed, so will barely play, even when paying.

The less ambitious Baton Rouge teams are in a good place for such. A ton of local tournaments at every level every week within a short drive.

The best is when a kid strolls to the plate with the newest bat, a custom helmet, top of the line cleats, some Bruce Bolt batting gloves, eye black, the works…and they stand in the corner of the box afraid to swing the bat.

Wouldve cost me over $10,000 to coach my boys Little League team. I said no thanks. Have to pay for practice field, cages, stuff like team banners and bs for the kids. Team party.

even the more ambitious ones like the pelicans teams and saints can play in the 2d select series which always has a tournament there. or at most travel to lafayette

the only team that really travels in the BR area is traction and that is only certain age groups and only 3-4 times a year

if you are in South LA, there is a tournament within 2 hour drive every single weekend that is competitive. 90% of the time within an hour.

as far as the cost of the team.....most really really good teams that do 2 fall and 10 spring tournaments plus local world series are going to spend between 7-8k on tournament fees and umpire pay. then you add in a paid non dad coach for 500 a month(if you are lucky as thats cheap AF) for lets say 8 months, thats 4k. then add in uniforms for 250 per kid. now add in ~200 a month for field rental.

it adds up quickly and you can easily see why its 1500-2k for most teams in South LA. unless its a huge org with 5 or so teams per age group....the orgs arent making a ton of money. traction was built on tournament fees.

tournament directors are the ones that make bank

stout mentioned knowing owner of 2d, i know him too and yea he does great. but it took 5-6 years to build to that, wasnt overnight. and his fees are the lowest of all the major tournament orgs.

I pulled my son off a team at the end of the fall season that is deciding to go to Cooperstown this coming summer. I was the bad guy for a few weeks.
Then we played in a higher level tournament at end of the season so they could get a taste of the competition Cooperstown will be. We got smoked in every game! I added up to 6K just for that tournament alone! His new team will be less than third of that for the whole season and will stay local.

I am glad 2d is now at traction over PG. Hoping they move my kids Select Series games there from Zachary where baseball goes to die.

zachary is better than oak villa

we always got stuck at oak villa when we went to BR.

zachary is better than central too imo
