$500 bat?

Only a fool would pay that.

We would hit homeruns with a broomstick when I was a kid.

And the population of high school age kids that truly needs to challenge themselves against national competition is much smaller than these travel orgs would have you believe.

95% of hs kids are not traveling playing the big national tournaments. most play local travel. like in LA, most kids are playing in the 2D HS tournaments or going to texas and doing 5tool. legion has just been replaced with that.

mainly only about the top 25-40 kids in each class in the state are going to tournaments like WWBA or the PBR futures games and things like that.

Sports are expensive but I don't care. I love watching my boys wrestle and playing football. Can't wait to see them continue it in high school

Thank you for your perspective on how things happen in the small slice of the country you're familiar with. Now consider that things may work differently in other areas of the country where there are more people in general and more people with more disposable income.

$500 bat?

if you a hardcore baw, you know bat dealers and get some breaks or price shop smart.

i just bought my daughter a year plus old model bat new in wrapper and probably saved $140-$200 easily on the same bat with new paint wrap.

but doing shite you love cost money. These are just recently expenses i've had over past month or so:

hack attack jr pitching matching about $2500
new batting cage net $680
new camwood bat package $140
new softball bat $265
new bbcor baseball bat $300
3 dozen blemished baseballs and bucket $193
extra dozen pitching machine balls $80
Not even getting into several pairs of new needed batting gloves and some other misc crap, nor getting into the camp costs and hotels i've done nor getting into travel ball organization cost and travel cost associated.

im pretty familiar with it on the national scene too

you are completely blinded because you pay attention to recruiting. 90% of kids are not going to play in the big PBR events, WWBA etc. sure there are a lot that do but not compared to total number of HS players across the country

but sure go ahead and tell me what part of the country you are talking about.

because texas, cali, AZ, Co, Ohio, plus couple others all have huge 5 tool leagues

then you have 2d in LA along the gulf coast to florida

PBR has tournaments all in the midwest, SE, NY, AZ, and all along the east coast

PG has high school tournaments all over

so what part of the country are you talking about?

and again....look at the numebrs in the big national tournaments and compare to the overall number of kids in HS playing ball

This will be controversial, but I think it is a result of white people sinking ALL of their hopes and dreams of little Brayden's professional glory into baseball and abandoning those hopes in football/basketball.

30 years ago kids, of all races, played all of the sports. Football in the fall. Basketball in the winter. Baseball in spring/summer. There was very little year round baseball. The data shows ~60% - 70% of the players in the NFL are black. The percentage in the NBA is higher. Given that fact, I think a lot white people just gave up on the likelihood of their kid being a pro football or basketball player and pivoted to full on baseball. That then created a marketplace to exploit. On average, I don't think you see a lot of black families nationwide paying thousands of dollars for their kids to play football and basketball.

It's really sad because the overwhelming majority of kids, of ALL races, won't become pro or even college athletes. They should be playing all of the sports now while they can.

We never needed any of that shite as a kid.

Batting cage?
Pitching machine?

Damn...

When I was a kid, we had fathers and real friends our age to play catch and throw the ball with.

Now you're lashing out because you feel insulted that your experience is only your experience and not indicative of how things are everywhere.

I'm blinded because I pay attention to everything, but you're universally right because you know about certain age groups of kids in one part of one state.

You can continue to die on the travel ball hill. I don't care. All I'm telling you is that just because things work one way in Lake Charles doesn't mean they work that way in other places.

see this is kind of an ignorant shot, who the hell you think is in the batting cage with them? it's probably the one place we actually spend the most time together. Again, your kids need to love the sport for any of it to make sense.

WWBA, Connie Mack, PBR world series, lake pointe, Team usa team championships....yea if you look at the number of kids there vs the number playing HS baseball.....its a small %

bro....stfu

the dominicans are getting taken from their homes at 10, put into mlb training academies where they live, go to school and practice 6-8 hours per day year around, playing games 4-5 days per week

they are travel baseball on steroids. and if you think they are bad....dont go look how japan does it.

No. We would go to the park or the local school field and hit balls thrown by our fathers and our friends.

We didn't need thousands of dollars to play a sport. A glove, wood bat, and a few balls were the only tools needed to play.

Cool.

Travel orgs definitely don't fleece parents of non-prospects and send them to useless tournaments in other states because you say so.

so you sucked is what you are telling me

you sound like an old man yelling at clouds.

1) fields have to rented now a days, same with cages and those cost money

2) the sport has advanced just a tad from your day grandpa

3) the father that buys batting cage and pitching machine is also taking his kids to the fields and doing all the things you just said.

but....i know this might sound crazy to you....some kids really like certain sports and want to be the best they can be at it. that takes practice.

and machine work is the only real way to simulate game like velocity and spin consistently. your father throwing 40mph lolly pops up to you for "BP" isnt doing a damn thing

ahh.."the local field"....

yeah... its so easy to just walk onto a baseball field whenever you want cause those are never taken up at the parks when you need them or locked up. You can just stroll onto the parks property and just hit balls all day long. besides the fact it would take me 45 minutes of pure drive time driving to and from a park needed to even hit when we are able to in our busy schedules of life. You are saying dumb shite. meanwhile fetching 75 baseballs scattered across a 380 ft baseball field, yeah that's real efficient. My family can walk down the driveway and hit any time and part of the day, have lights needed or can do whatever when ever. Keep on trying grandpa.
