per Nola.com

Too much to copy and paste here but I suggest reading it through. These aren't one-off cases. This is widespread coverup and deceit. Even the pope admits it:

quote:

Francis sought to recover from that episode by sending two investigators to Chile, apologizing for his "serious errors" in handling the crisis and making a reference - unprecedented for a pope - to a "culture of abuse and coverup."

I still dont see how anyone can be a part of this club.

Kill pedos with fire. But using that abuse to stand on some morally superior position to advocate “tearing it all down” is childish.

...for those coming in with the anti religion spin.

This is about as dumb of a statement as you can make.

Heard a comedy bit the other day on XM about this. Apparently the Pope called a big conference at the Vatican about this whole thing and had people come in from all over the world for a week. Comedian said “was a conference really necessary? How about y’all just stop raping kids?” I laughed.

Seems reasonable enough to me.

Of course not. We are sexual creatures by nature. When we force ourselves or an institution forces us to unnaturally suppress that sexuality, bad things often happen.

That doesn't mean that we have to lecherous, but we were meant to have sex occasionally.

Also, being "celibate" among people of the same gender makes a naturally great hiding place for gay people who are ashamed to come out.

I think for all of those reasons, the Catholic Church will continue to be rife with predatory and homosexual clergy until they do away with the celibacy requirements.

Watch The Keepers on Netflix. Cover-ups are still going on today. Pretty solid documentary.

Not just rape and sex abuse being covered up. Murder too.

People have come to realize over the last decade that this stuff isn't disproportionate to the Catholic Church. In general, people of authority are more tempted by this stuff. Bad teachers, cops, priests, ministers etc are everywhere. Not defending any of it, and the Catholics were worse than anyone about covering it up. It's just almost expected from positions of power now.

Yeah, it's more of a pedo sex cult than a club.

Wife is Catholic but not me. Raised the kids Catholic and go to mass on Easter and Christmas (and odds and ends other times during the year). Every time I sit there I just can't not think about the terrible history and widespread coverup. And fair or not, I look at every priest and think to myself, damn is that a child molester? I know I would never have left my kids alone with a priest when they were young. No way. And now, both of my kids are moving away from the church and religion in general, partly because of this scandal and more importantly, the damn culture of coverup from the top down.

It is natural for humans to have sexual desires. Any organization or position that tries to “suppress” those natural desires is asking for trouble.

The Catholic Church is a false religion. It puts its doctrine at or above biblical teachings. It is the same structure of the church that crucified Christ. You don’t need a priest to talk to God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say worship or pray to Mary. Nowhere does it say baptize your infant. Nowhere does the Bible say that your going to hell for committing a sin after Jesus has already saved you if you don’t go tell a priest. The Pope has positioned himself like a god to Gods people. Judgement will come and I hope the Pope doesn’t end up on a rope...Bad joke but I don’t care.

It goes on in quite a few religions. Catholics do not have the market cornered.

The difference here is the reporting. One thing about the Catholic faith is the tedious records kept which allow much of this to come to light even years later and can be substantiated.

Other religions who are isolated from each other and act independent from other churches of their own faith and denomination as well as not as on top of the records. Whose pastors and religious leaders can be shitcanned with the quickest and removed without issue whilest their actions are much more easily swept under the rug.

Here today gone tomorrow type of leadership.

It's definitely skews the proliferation of pedophilia in the religious orders towards Catholicism quite a bit.

None of which I condone btw. They should all burn in hell. I'm just posting as to a major reason while "all we see are Catholic leaders doing this".

Sexual abuse by the clergy actually accounts for an incredibly small percentage of all sexual abuse. It ends up getting thrown out there by the media a lot though because it makes an interesting story.

A much larger percentage is done by stepparents against stepchildren. However, our culture seems to be perfectly ok with people divorcing and remarrying with new spouses. It's hypocritical and doesn't make any sense.

It's kind of like BLM activists protesting police brutality against blacks but doing nothing to stop the black on black violence, which happens to be a much bigger problem.

In which case the highest argument for Catholicism falls apart.
