I hate when yankees say "buh un" instead of button or "Pey un" instead of Peyton.

1) Who the frick listens to a Tommy Tucker podcast? I mean, what in the actual frick?

2) We definitely have our own thing going on down here as far as phonetics. We have the Irish and Italians that settled in the port cities at the turn of the 20th century to thank for that.

With that being said, it ain’t pretty dawlin’ but it’s pretty unique and I’ll take it any day over any run of the mill southern sounding accent or that in between thing everything from Baton Rouge and up has going on.

Never heard that. Rather "Mynez" for mayonnaise.

Mosquito Hawk, instead of dragonfly

A mosquito hawk is not a dragon fly, it is a crane fly. I have never heard someone refer to a dragon fly as that.

If you grew up in eastern St. Tammany, the area has its own linguistics pattern. Took a class on it when I needed a basket weaving credit. Crane flies don’t eat mosquitoes, so calling them a mosquito hawk makes no sense.

Heard an interesting story behind the New Orleans accent, don’t know the truth behind it. Someone told me there were many nuns who came down from NY and taught in the NO catholic schools, which kids supposedly picked up on their accents.

Thought it was pretty cool if true..

“Horrible” is pronounced “hawable” by my pain the the fricking arse “New Awlins” native mother in law.

I enjoy talking about how much I hate that hell hole when she’s within hearing distance. She gets so bent out of shape over it

She also pronounces “croissant” as “kroy-sant”.
“Idea” as “Aye-dea”, with major emphasis on the “I” sound.

Pisses me the frick off and I’m pretty sure she does it because she knows it pisses the wife and I off
