Tommy Tucker podcast. Very interesting: LINK
"Tommy talks to Katie Carmichael, an Assistant Professor of English at Virginia Tech, about the history of the New Orleans accent, how it differs neighborhood to neighborhood, and if it's disappearing."
I just wish they'd learn how to say "Supposedly" instead of "Supposably". It just drives me nuts.
What's your fave Nawlins linguistic oddity??

Interestingly enough, if you study it you’ll find that there are many similarities in accents from older, Major port cities like New Orleans, Boston and New York.
Lots of Irish and Italian influence, plus the slang of sailors wormed its way into the accents

The use of “ahwn” instead of the long “i”. Nahwn instead of nine. Same for fahv instead of five.
