It was named after the Frenchman, not Christianity. Hence the French pronunciation.

In reading my reply I noticed that we pronounce Pass Christian the same way you would pronounce the first part of Christianity. Not sure if this is relevant, but interesting word play either way.

Thus, Pass Christian is pronounced the French way, not the English way.

Except the name Christian in French would not be pronounced the way we pronounce Pass Christian

Impressive.

The next 15% was some dude named Necaise.

Correct.

There are a bunch of people in that area with the last name Ladner, who are allegedly descendants of L'adnier. Been there for 250 years and still haven't gone north of I-10.

Passe Christianne

Why didn’t they just spell the town this way if that’s how it’s pronounced?

Would really make much more sense. Or even just “Pass Christianne”

Right. I know how people pronounce it. I’m curious as to why it is pronounced that way. Where did that start?

Ask yourself why it's "Say-nt Gay-bree-ul" for St. Gabriel and "San-a-mahn" for St. Amant.

Well St Gabriel is completely normal but St Amant certainly isn’t.

No one knows. It’s like how Mobile, AL, the home of the first Mardi Gras in the U.S. is pronounced. Or how .gif is pronounced JIF if you want to pronounce it correctly.

If it’s your last name, it’s pronounced So-shay.
The community named after the surname is pronounced So-shuh or So-shur, given your level of redneckedness.
It’s never pronounced Sauce-ee-yay like the chefs.
Gautier is contested, it can be either Go-shay or Go-chay. Then there’s the Gottschalk’s saying it’s pronounced Go-shay, too, which I think is a stretch. Silly Germans.
Diaz is Dye-az and Perez is Pee-rez. Jacquet is Jack-oh. St. Amant’s will pronounce their name in proper English as Sant Amant so that you’ll spell it correctly, but respond to Sanamaw.
We special over here.
