I had a Louisiana history class at LSU taught by the famous M.T. Carleton. He talked about Huey Long’s last words. The popular story was that he said something along the lines of “what will happen to my children?” in reference to LSU students for whom he would no longer be able to advocate. Carleton said he spoke to the deathbed nurse and Huey’s last words were “shite.”

For those who didn't watch the video, #1 regret was not being themselves.

I believe mine will be not accepting Christ as my Savior when I was young. He was always with me but I wasn't with him and I firmly believe I am alive today because of Him.

It was a physician interviewed and he stated most people regretted not taking care of their physical health in the younger days and as a result their last years were extremely uncomfortable, if not unbearable, and many suffered from extreme depression. He had patients who were in their 50's-80's who spent decades being extremely unhealthy and as a result, in addition to the mental health issues associated with it, they suffered from cardiovascular, orthopedic, respiratory, diabetic issues and pathologies related to all forms of cancer and most could have been avoided had they exercised and paid better attention to their nutrition. They spent their last years in and out of physicians' offices and hospitals. Not how I expect to spend my last decades of my life. We've all seen the obese people in their 30's and 40's on those mobility scooters- that's their life for what little time they have left.

look at all the mentally ill "being themselves" this day and age. The very root of most religions are to instill self control and not allow society to become a wasteland of wackos "being themselves"

Most people on their death bed ask for their mom
One time I cried..telling my wife that our neighbor had been killed in a bicycle accident. He rode his bike everywhere...he didn't like driving. But one day he swerved left and got clipped by an SUV - totally his fault but as he laid in the road in his final few seconds, as people rushed to him...he was asking for his mother

Years ago, I read an article about this by an end of life care nurse. Apparently, #1 is "I wish I hadn't worked so hard."
