The income thresholds will be based on a taxpayer's most recent return. If they've already filed a 2020 return by the time the payment is sent, the IRS will base eligibility on their 2020 adjusted gross income. If not, it will be based on the 2019 return.

Punishing those who act proactively. It’s what the government is best at.

$1400 means nothing to the standard OTer.

I haven't been paying attention. What is the new income threshold?
EDIT - Nevermind I Googled.

I’m sorry but you should have read up on this. It’s obviously a major chunk to miss out on to not know what the rules are. Do your homework.

What exactly is "punishing" about using the most up to date information?

I retired in August last year so my annual income went down significantly over 2019, but still way above the averages. I actually got a tax credit because I should have gotten a check last year. I still don’t understand why, because I certainly wasn’t in the really need it crowd and my income didn’t indicate I needed it.

Sorry for your white privilege

Yeah I am in the same boat. Granted its a good boat due to the promotion but still want my "free" monies!
Posted on 3/9/21 at 12:17 pm to el duderino III
Don't you get a tax credit for the same amount if you don't get this check?

Punishing may not be using the right word, but they aren't treating similarly situated taxpayers equally.
I think that's a reasonable argument to make.
I don't know how any of this works because it wasn't applicable to me anyway, so I'm probably talking out of my arse

I made less money than I did last year and still got nothing.

You’re telling me. I already filed 2020 so I will not be eligible. If I had waited and let them use 2019, it was literally $159,999 that we filed. Would have been eligible by 1 fricking dollar
