Yeah the divorce rate of 50% has always been misleading. There are habitual divorcees that drive the rate up.

They are even sillier when they cost over 20,000.00.

my oldest daughter got married in Aug.

There was NO wedding. they signed a paper and had it notarized.

We bought her a "wedding" dress. (Amazon). Paid for a photographer.
Paid for a weekend honeymoon in Nashville at a 5 star hotel
and then a 2 week "real" honeymoon in Italy 2 months later. No idea the cost but probably under 10k

for my wedding there were 10 people in attendance total. including the preacher and his wife. in room at the church.

I went to one recently. It was nice, food was good.

Three hundred and fifty thousand dollars. That doesn't include honeymoon to France, Italy and Switzerland.

Her dad is cashed out software guy, wrote 1 check.

Same thing happened to me, a younger coworker got married, and he was losing his mind around all the details and bullshite expenditures that his wife thought were necessary.

I simply told him that your guests don’t care about the flowers and placemats and special chairs…etc as much as you think they do.

Their wedding budget was $30,000 and they were gonna blow it all on the ceremony and fancy reception and not even take a honeymoon

I don’t know if it’s what I said or he just had an epiphany, but they ended up doing a very small wedding with friends and family only for $5k…and spent the $20,000 on a kick arse 10-day honeymoon in Tahiti…. And still had $5,000 left over.

When he got back, he told me it’s the best decision he’s ever made in his life, however, I don’t think many grooms would have the balls to stand up to their wife or even think the way he did

It is amazing how much money couples will spend on a wedding and really make it about impressing the guests and not just focusing on the wedding itself and themselves

No one believes that. What are you talking about?

Can’t remember the last time I went to a wedding. Been to lots of funerals though.

The statistics for divorce rates don't include how many couples are miserable but don't divorce for financial reasons (including having to find another place to live).

Small weddings are best. Just close family and friends.

Same here, went to one a couple of weekends ago. North of $300K. Then a 2 week honeymoon in Italy. Must be nice.

Weddings are one thing, but it doesn't take tons of $$$$ to get married.

You're just as married if a Justice of the Peace married you in a small civil ceremony with a small group of family and friends as you are with being married in St. Louis Cathedral and having a full blown catered affair at the Riverwalk.

I know of several couples that went the big party route that cost the bride's father's $30K and up and all of them are now divorced. Seems like such a waste.

The older I get, the more I appreciate them.

My energy level is going down for sure though.

I dropped 75k on my oldest daughter’s wedding last May and it broke me. I’m still trying to recover from it.

Gave my daughter and son-in-law $20k to put down on their house and threw a very small reception for the party. Think the most expensive part was the pictures.

I’ve never quite understood how that works.

Are we like hacking into credit card and bank statements, or what?
