Start preparing for stay at home orders extended thru next summer.

In the latest sign of how profoundly the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has upended Hollywood, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that it is pushing back the date of the 93rd Academy Awards from Feb. 28 to April 25, 2021.

In a virtual Zoom meeting of the organization’s 54-member board of governors — which includes such luminaries as Steven Spielberg, Laura Dern and Whoopi Goldberg — academy leaders decided that a potential resurgence of COVID-19 in the fall and winter posed too great a risk to mount such a large-scale public event in February.

“Potential resurgence”

So, why not wait until we see a “potential resurgence” before making this decision?

I mean it’s already had a major impact on movie releases set for this year. They were gonna have to delay it either way unless they wanted a very shallow pool of candidates for the awards this year

Can they push them back to at least 2050? Pretty sure I’ll be dead by then.

Good. Give them an extra 2 months of more melting material to write if Trump wins again.

I mean, they got Parasite right. Was refreshing to see someone outside of Hollywood to win it and rightfully so.

Lol as much as you guys want to believe this could happen, it’s simply impossible.

The average American is not going to lock down again. Business will defy orders to do so now that cops have been eliminated from society

At this rate, 2021's Oscars will be in the running for "worst nominees ever." Since 'Rona began and the country went into lockdown mode, the films that have been released have generally been of the "straight to DVD" quality.

I don't watch that glorified blowfest, but if the Academy cares about awarding deserving films, they might consider skipping 2021 and doing a two-year ceremony in 2022.

I'm surprised they didn't wait to see if Biden wins because Covid will end the next day.
