The new Toyota Grand Highlander might just take over the midsize SUV market.

I’m in the market for a new SUV. With so many choices out there and so many vehicles with their own unique features, it’s been hard trying to navigate which one draws my interest.

The current Highlander has always lagged behind the competition due to its limited cargo area and 3rd row leg room.

The Hyundai Palisades and Kia Telluride seem to offer many nice features at an affordable price or at least less than what the competition will offer in a comparable vehicle.

The Honda Pilot now has a new body style but doesn’t offer the variety of engine options available in the Toyota Grand Highlander. Although it stuck with the V6 design most car enthusiast seem to desire. This come with a MPG cost as it average in the 21-24mpg range.

Now the Grand Highlander enters the picture and seems to check all the boxes one would want in a midsize SUV. It also offers 3 different engine designs and an estimated 34mpg’s. The Cargo area boast 98 cubic ft of storage area, best in class. The Hybrid Max engine option gives 362Hp and 400lbs of Torque. Toyota may have hit this one out of the ballpark. So much so that it will likely hurt the Sequoia sales, as the Sequoia is a vehicle I’ve had in the past and still desire with the new body style. Storage and functionality seems to be a big downfall with the sequoia that also comes with a high price tag.

My wife has the Grand Cherokee L which is very nice, but I would much rather have her in a Toyota. Might have to check that out.

Appears to be for mixed race families only.

I’m actually a consumer looking to buy my next SUV. Currently drive an Infiniti QX60 that has about 120k miles on it. Wife just got a regular highlander. Had I known about this new Grand Highlander, we might have waited on it. I really like the new Sequoia look but the more I look into the lack of storage functionality and price, it leads me in a different direction.

My wife drives a Palisade and thing will do just about everything short of cook dinner. It’s nice.

I was in a Toyota dealership yesterday and the top of the line Highlander is pretty damn nice as is. I always thought negatively of them, but decked out in leather, cool color…not sure why people buy so many 4 Runner TRD Pros when you know their asses aren’t taking it off road.

We have a 2021 highlander. Super smooth ride. Had a 2016 before that. Great vehicles.

I agree, they are nice but we just got rid of ours due to a chronic rear suspension issue they couldn’t seem to fix. It had 6 different visits to the Hyundai dealership and not once was it fixed. The self leveling rear suspension seems to be an issue in, at least, the 2021 model.

Toyota doesn’t have the interior of Telluride or Palisades.

You’ve got a little more horsepower, .5 cubic ft more space but a by far inferior dash.

Assuming it has all of the other features a Palisade and Telluride have.

Objectively, I prefer the looks/style of our 2016 Sorento:

A highlander is a crossover, not an SUV.

As far as I can find, prices haven’t been released yet but, if I had to guess, it will probably come in roughly 5k more than the regular highlander.
