Just like on The Simpsons. All the glowing gel oozing into the Mississippi and Calcasieu Rivers.

From the article
quote:
In its most recent volume of “Cancer in Louisiana,” the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) again points out that cancer incidence and death rates in the Industrial Corridor are at, and in some instances below, those in the rest of the state.
That is a quote, by an attorney representing the chemical industry, without any parameters regarding - time periods covered, overall cancer rates or specific cancer types, parishes includes in the term “industrial corridor,” etc. It is not a statement in support of a conclusion. It is the conclusion.
Again my only point is this article is a press release and a poorly prepared one at that. The chemical industry should ask for their money back.

I bet op would happily post "smoking is healthy" studies funded by Phillip Morris as well.

I think the term Cancer Alley is just a title. It’s more about the over all health risk of living near a chemical plant. I remember 20 years ago or so, the town of St Gabriel had the highest birth defects rate in the country.
Now, were these numbers made up?

It was a title given to the area during union negotiations in the 80s. Might have been OCAW, can't remember. They wanted to frame the job as higher risk to get concessions from the companies.

I am willing to read and consider any studies done that show actual increase in cancer cases. It has been 40 years since this started and no one has been able to put together the data.

First: Frick you and the self-righteous horse you rode in on
Second: I was not backing up Op's assertions that cancer alley is a myth. I don't think his link is credible in the slightest
third: My son is a cancer survivor so again....FRICK YOU

We should all want a cleaner, safer environment and air quality.
The only reason petrochem plants take any steps at having a cleaner, safer air, is because regulations force them to do so.
Forget cancer alley terms. It's better for all of us, the less pollution they make.
Obviously we can't stop all pollution because it is a side effect of progress. But to the extent we can limit it, we should do so.
We never hear about "the hole in the ozone layer" anymore because companies were forced to come into compliance.

Blaming petrochemical for the increased cancer in Louisiana is glossing over the actual reason of shite health, lack of education, and just poor.
40 years of Cancer Alley and they can't link actual clusters or increased cases. Only increased risk factors.
Poor people live in poor communities.
Poor people are more likely to have health issues.
The only communities up against the refinery fences are poor communities.
That doesn't mean the refinery is causing the health problems. But healthy, wealthy people don't live along a refinery fence.

Without a doubt. There is a huge step between regulation/monitoring and just an outright ban.

Nah man it's just like the movies! Big bad chemical plant is just dumping barrels of toxic sludge into the waterway.
Speaking of movies, have you seen the devil we know? It’s a documentary about Dupont and Teflon. They were dumping chemicals in the river, and all the girls working there started having retarded babies, the cows also had the same facial deformities as the babies. They were trying to get blood samples of people that didn’t have Teflon in their blood, and they couldn’t find anybody alive on earth, so they had to use samples from dead soldiers in World War I, so says the documentary.
