Nutria meat must be better than rat meat.

Anyway, meat is meat. (That's what she said.)

If there was an efficient means for harvesting rodents like mice it would be of greater benefit to the environment than solar panels and wind farms.

> In the Mishmi culture of India, rats are essential to the traditional diet, as Mishmi women may eat no meat except fish, pork, wild birds and rats.

Based. "Give 'em an inch" and all...

Only difference between rat and a squirrel is the tail.I’ve killed wood rats as big as a cat squirrel.

It's disgusting to think about but that's because we are Haughty, Wealthy and Fat. Put a White Girl in a Silence of the Lambs Pit for 30 days with no food and she'd BEG you for a Rat Burger, with ketchup, of course. Not that I'd do that, I'm just making a point with a hypothetical. I'm not trying to be weird or anything.

I heard nutria is white meat so, I’d say rat is better- based on eating squirrels.

I'm okay with admitting that rat meat is below my standards.

Even if they weren't disgusting, disease spreading, mess-making, rodent bastards, I still don't like small animals on the menu. You have to eat like half a dozen of them to fill up, and all those small bones are a pain in the arse. Once you toss all the guts and bones, you get a couple bites worth of meat.

Crawfish are majikally delicious and worth the effort. But rats? Nope nope nope. They're maybe my food's food's food. Give me a pig or a moose.

You just summed up my thoughts on American instagram culture in one post. Becky wouldn’t even remember what a pumpkin spice latte is at the end of those 30 days. Nothing weird about it. People need some hardships in this country.

I guess that there is a way to make rat meat safe to eat and appetizing. I'd eat it if I had to.

How do people come up with this? I’m also curious how serious many of these cultures actually are about it? I mean explain to me how you can eat rat but not a cow or chicken?

in the late 70s, my dad was caught smuggling people from VN -> Philippines en route back. Boat motor died.

got thrown in prison. all they fed was rice, he had to catch rats in prison and cook it up himself to get protein. said it wasn't bad, its just chewy.

I guess diet is the big thing. Eating a street rat is stupid. Eating a rat from the forest? sure. It's just like pigeon: a delicacy in french cuisine but they aren't just going to the local park and grabbing ones off the street.

How do you know? Have you eaten rat? It might make crawfish taste like turd soup in comparison.

There's a great but lost story out there about a Confederate Soldier under siege at Vicksburg. Several of the boys cooked up some Rat Stew, but, somehow HIS Rat Stew became the preferred cuisine of the battalion. And so, day after day, he was tasked and ordered to fix up some of his semi-delicious Rat Stew.

Sadly, after he was captured, paroled and released, nobody ever asked him ever again to make his famous Rat Stew, and, his famous recipe is lost forever.

We salute you, Rat Stew Guy, real man of genius.
