I would have expected Phoenix, San Antonio, and Albuquerque to have a larger skyline than they do considering their size.
Oklahoma City looks strange because they have that one building that's substantially taller than anything else. Really stands out in a bad way (like 432 Park Ave)

That stupid spire the put on that older oblong building to try to “blend in” with the talker newer one, is such a freaking atrocity.

Dallas’ skyline is striking – and it’s been deemed the best in the whole world. Dallas has been voted “Best International Skyline” in a contest by USA Today and 10Best.
Big D was among 20 nominees for the honor. Competitors included Chicago, Seattle, Paris, Kuala Lumpur and Rio de Janeiro.
A panel of architects selected the 20 cities – and readers were given four weeks to vote.
Chicago placed second. Rio de Janeiro third. Toronto and New York rounded out the top five.

The highly recognizable cityscape - regularly featured in the 1980s hit series 'Dallas' and other more recent reality shows - took a strong majority of votes, despite stiff competition from #2 finisher Chicago. In recent years, Dallas has added colorful interactive lighting to its skyline, giving it 8 extra hours per day to impress travelers. Nighttime flights into DFW - one of the nation's busiest airports - often give passengers a memorable view of what has become an extravaganza. (An early adapter to colorful nighttime lighting of a downtown was Albuquerque, New Mexico).

DC is one of the shittiest cities in the country. No skyline, no heart, no culture.
It isn’t Boston or New York, but DC has plenty of history and sightseeing for visitors.

Was flying into Dallas Love one foggy evening. Couldn't see anything on the ground but that green-striped lighted building was sticking up through the fog.

I like the Dallas skyline.
That World-of-Tomorrow Q-Tip thing kills it for me. It's like, yeah... Epcot. I remember that.

Agreed. Great history and good to visit etc, but has zero identity. Nobody is from here. The urban sprawl where I am is even worse. Tyson’s skyline is decent coming from DC but other than that it’s all meh.

DC can’t have any buildings taller than the Capitol dome. Hence, shitty skyline.

This makes no sense. I personally think Dallas has a skyline that would be great for a 2m person city rather than a massive city, but it's still fine and Houston is unremarkable.

2). Atlanta, GA…The placement of the buildings are stupid , tacky, and make the city look smaller than what the population presents.
Also makes no sense. Atlanta has three urban core pieces to the skyline but there is nothing tacky about it, it's just how the city developed. The midtown/downtown skyline is a classic-looking has the tallest building (which is also a good design) of any of the new-growth cities.

Mobile and Charleston (but Charleston intended it to be a preservation of the past, so it kinda gets a pass)

Kuwait City's skyline is nice, but you'd think there'd be more to it.
Posted on 1/5/22 at 8:51 pm to Palmetto98
But what about city proper populations?
Posted on 1/5/22 at 8:53 pm to Palmetto98
The only answer can be San Antonio. For a city so large, the skyline is really pitiful.
That said, there’s good reason for it, as no building is allowed to cast a shadow on the Alamo. So there’s a pretty cool/historically significant reason that downtown San Antonio is significantly lacking relative to the other major metros. But still, it does have a major impact on the skyline.

These threads should always start and end with Albany, NY.
