In high school we had to write an essay on a topic we chose, I chose Charles Manson. I bought Helter Skelter to read / research, and checked a few other books out of the library on the Manson Family.

I came home later that afternoon to a pile of smoking ashes in the driveway, my mom was standing there with charcoal lighter, who told me to never bring that trash back in her house.
There was another small pile of ashes next to it, which used to be my Ronnie James Dio album.

With the holidays and a now 6 month old, I’ve been turtle pacing my way through this book since picking it up in December. I’m about half way through now and just getting to the actual government conspiracy parts.

Am I the only one that feels like the entire first half just got thrown out of the window and I could have just started the book at this point?

Check out the book The Big Goodbye which came out a few years ago. It's about the making of Chinatown, and Roman Polanski. It gets into the Manson murders and other interesting things.

Helter Skelter was a great book, very well written. He preyed on weak vulnerable people who had bad home lives, mental issues and were just misfits in general. He was scary smart for such an uneducated guy. The books dispels a lot of myths and gives fascinating insight into he trial and how the La Sheriff’s and La. PD department fought among themselves to almost blow the case.

Anybody interested in Manson needs to read Chaos by Tom O’Neil.

it is a good book but stops short of actually saying anything. A lot of the book is just o'neil jacking himself off about how much research he did.

If you are into Journalist exposing the CIA, Dark Alliance by Gary Webb, is another great read on the CIA's involvment with crack and the Contras

If you asked my opinion of the book from what I’ve read so far.

LSD, long sessions of Brain Washing, and Sex...Manson never personally killed anyone. Convinced others to kill to help start his race war. Hell he Convinced the Beach Boys to record one of his songs for the album Pet Sounds...

I think he did admit to killing at least one black dude over a drug deal or something, he just supposedly wasn't hands on with the Tate-LaBianca killings

They don’t make prosecutors like that anymore. If he had tried OJ, the trial would have lasted two weeks and resulted in conviction.

Its interesting to me that the guy who clearly was responsible for the fast food prank calls was not held responsible for his actions considering the justice that was served to Manson.
