Helter Skelter was a reference to the race war that Charles predicted would happen in the future. That Charley was one crazy SOB Huh ?!

Often thought about that. Seemed preposterous for so long.

If you've read Helter Skelter, this is a pretty good book as well...

Those kids weren't normal. They were dropouts.

Manson was on probation and not reporting. If the State had done their job and thrown him back in jail those people would have lived.

I remember when it happened.

Bugliosi also wrote “ And The Sea Will Tell “. About a couple murdered at Palmyra Atoll. You will enjoy it.

Just about any mention of the Manson Family, including this thread, sends me right back down the rabbit hole. There's so many interesting side characters and subplots in this story.

I miss ole Charlie ranting on and on about lizards and snake people and threatening to beat Barbara walters with a book. Interesting note: the actual Tate door that “pig” was written on in her blood was installed as the front door to Nothing Studios on magazine in Nola by Trent Reznor.

You give people in their late teens, early 20s acid it will make them do things they have no idea they are doing.

When I was younger I used to think it was interesting, but I guess just seeing and reading a lot about it over time the whole story started to become numb to me. But the one thing that caught my interest is the possibility that he might have been part of the CIA research on LSD.

The unibomber was involved in a similar research program right? I find that interesting (and the unibomber).

But Manson was just a headcase (possibly due to being a guineapig for the US government) who used drugs to manipulate people who was looking to fit in somewhere.

There's no "might have been" to it. He was. He was also in Boys Town, which has it's own sordid history.

If Manson was coming up today, just imagine how large his following would be among society's current Democrat outcasts. We'd all be in serious trouble.

Supposedly Bugliosi's book is more fiction than true crime.
Says who?

A huge amount of that book can be verified by police records and actual court testimony.

Especially Tex. He was a baw.
He was a true psychopath. So was Susan Atkins.

They enjoyed the killing. They did so without remorse. Court testimony proved that about them. They were the two people who were just as evil as Charlie.

Anybody interested in Manson needs to read Chaos by Tom O’Neil.

I'd like to see more on their time in San Francisco. Supposedly, Susan Atkins was a stripper and regular at Anton Levay's Black House. But that's not "real" Satanism, according to some people. Sure, it's not.

The Free Clinic that they frequented was definitely a front for MK Ultra.

The Manson Family Murders...

Has there ever been a more interesting & bizarre crime story ?

I first read Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi when I was 14 (1975)...one of the best crime books of all time. I remember it creeped me out so bad that I slept with a knife by my bedside just in case...

Even now, as an old adult, I'm still amazed at the whole thing.

How this one little man convinced fairly normal young adults to willingly kill for him, not to mention how he tied it all to The Beatles White Album.

If you've never read Helter Skelter, put it on your list.

A book called Chaos is now considered the definitive piece on the subject.

It's what Bugliosi omitted that matters.

Anyway, Tom O'Niell says so.

If Manson was "coming up today", he'd be a white supremacist, not a progressive liberal. He hated blacks and wanted to start a race war.

Manson was raped and I think that's where it happened. Either there or some other foster type home.

Bugliosi prosecuted and sent them all to Death Row.

Tom O'Niell is a writer.

Hmmmm? I wonder who knows more about the facts of the case?
