They were saying years ago that they were going to make a phone that holograms would pop out of. They also said that they were going to make phones that were charged by solar power. What happened to that? When I was a kid and I thought about the future, I thought life was going to be like the Jetsons, or 'Back to the Future II' where they had flying skateboards.
Some things move faster than people predict and some things move slower
I don't think it would really make sense to have a solar powered cell phone tbh

Take toilet paper for example. Do you realize that toilet paper has not changed in my lifetime? It’s just paper on a cardboard roll, that’s it. And in ten thousand years it will still be exactly the same, because really, what else can they do?
Have you seen the charmin smooth tear? No more little ripped pieces

You have a rectangle in your pocket that has the entire record and knowledge of the universe as we know it and can contact any human being in the world with it within seconds.
You can also use it to post here and complain about the mailman on your neighborhood Facebook page.
Pretty crazy stuff happened in the last 20 years specifically.

You obviously don’t play video games boy

Look. I just wanna know when I can talk to my computer and pretend that it’s ScarJo and fall in love with it. I keep asking ChatGpt and she told me it’s kind of creeping her out.

I agree, but it still isn't necessary. I own this because I am forced to own it. You can't do business any other way. Society is moving towards this technology. I did just fine without it. I can't even get a human on the phone anymore when I have a problem. If your problem can't be resolved with a quick and simple yes or no algorithm, you are screwed. This technology isn't working. I'm pulling my hair out more than complementing it. It's also not secure when you consider the endless times it gets hacked and your information is compromised.
You are correct, you can complain about your mailman, but there might not be a human to listen to your complaint. This complaint is reduced to an algorithm, that is interpreted by a computer and may never be seen by a human. It may be further reduced into a percentage or a statistic. I think that is the point that the OP is trying to make.
I went to Walmart a while back, and was cursed out by a rude employee. I wanted to speak to the store manager to complain, but there was no manager at the store to speak to. I went online and still couldn't find anyone to complain to. I only got computer recordings or voicemails that nobody uses. The only way I could make a complaint was to give them a negative Google review and post my complaint there, along all of the other negative reviews. This is what customer service boils down to?
When the internet began (in its present form) in the mid to late 90's, we were much better off. It wasn't totally taken over by corporations, tyrants, and criminals. Today, freespeech is heavily censored on most forums like reddit and Yahoo, just to name a few. It is overwhelmed with propaganda and disinformation from foreign and domestic intelligence agencies and chat bots that seem real. Nobody can get truth or honest and objective information anymore. Every email address is loaded with spam because your information gets stolen by hackers and sold. Even if you get a new email address, in the course of one year, you are again getting so much spam that the email becomes practically useless as you will be getting hundreds of spam emails a week. Everytime you unsubscribe to the spam, you are actually subscribing to more spam. So is this technology really good?

Shouldn’t there be a “smart roll” by now that texts the chip in your neck to order more?
Or biometric sensors that do ongoing PSA tests and genetic monitoring of exit materials then automatically upload results of your eating and digestive habits to your social credit score and health insurance company?
Or sensors in each sheet to detect how thoroughly you’re wiping and text you the photos (saved to the cloud of course) in real time ?
Perhaps the data provided could do a “wipe efficiency scorecard” that could earn you additional “green bucks” that could be redeemed on Earthday for valuable prizes like tofu and Soylent Green?
The sky is the limit when you combine unfettered technology with Godless bureaucratic scientists.
Perhaps Ted Kaczynski’s theories were on to something? **
**Big Brother (& Chicken)-
please note that OP absolutely detests and condemns Kaczynski’s use of terror and violence to further his views.
There is no need to dispatch the black Suburbans.

I guess you missed the whole Yeti and its imitators. Those are a fantastic advancement. Blockchain technology and Crypto currencies are also transforming the accounting world and global financial system.

google maps/GPS is the greatest tech innovation in the history of my world. When’s the last time you got lost?

You do have a point, but you are not trying very hard to make it.
Technology has obviously gotten way better and more powerful, but it has built on ideas that were already there. iPhone is probably the easiest example of this. It’s still the same product, just more powerful. But the product is less innovative, and more of a tech ecosystem trap with every iteration. And the once incredible warranty and company backing has been eroded.
You also have advancements in things like medicine, surgical robots, that are clearly improvements but the result has driven up healthcare costs for average people that will never have the surgery.
On the other hand there have been other advancements such as electric cars that are highway worthy. Its incredible how far that tech has come in a short time. But these weren’t exactly necessary, and taxpayers have paid dearly.
I guess you could say the advancements have been fully compensated by the creators. Nothing has been created that resulted in net profit for mankind.
AI is another story, ChatGPT is incredible, and there are plenty of other AI tech that are doing amazing things. We are just getting started in this era, and I don’t see how this doesn’t change our lives dramatically

See thread title.
Technological advancement goes in waves. Something new will be created/discovered, it will then go through a lengthy refinement process leading to something new being created/discovered, etc.
For example, 20 years ago video calls and Zoom-style meetings were rare and usually of low quality. A true learning AI was still more relegated to War Games than reality, now we have versions of AI in our browsers.
The next big breakthrough is likely to be quantum computing (and by "big breakthrough" I mean getting it refined to a point where it becomes available on the consumer level) and then we'll see AI capabilities grow even faster. After that, well...

Tech associated with my fathers 56 chevy, I could repair every thing except disassemble the motor.
My 2022 car has way to many bells and whistles that distract and need a mfg computer to update.
that's progress

I mean, we’ve just created artificial intelligence, possibly the biggest thing mankind will ever do. No biggie.

That only means that more humans will be put out of work, and it will be much harder to get a human on the phone when you have a problem. None of this is good, like people insist. Technology is going to put us under tyranny, and some people are so brainwashed they will still be saying how great it is. This brings us back to the Orwellian state "1984." I've posted a video about this multiple times.
