No one is forcing you to fly. Do you also feel people shouldn't be forced to get a license in order to drive a car?

My point is that the people are being forced to get a passport because our state, for one reason or another, hasn't complied. Our id's should be enough to fly domestically.

My Dad is 60 and hates flying.

My parents are 70 and 82 and only fly to Cali once a year to visit their grandchild. I can guarantee they won't be getting passports. This will be my dad's excuse for never coming out to Cali again.

Bingo. And, they are more dense and make it harder for them to see the xray of the entire bag.

You honestly think the person looking at the x-ray, who was working at a call center last month, has the ability to uncover a bomb?

The arrogance of "everyone should have a passport" crowd is through the roof.

I have a passport, I enjoy traveling abroad. My grandad hasn't left the country since WWII, he shouldn't have to have one to visit his family if he wants to hop on a flight.

Isn't this about security issues? I mean, this sucks for people, but it might be something that just has to be done.

Why can't these 4 states just meet the fricking requirements on their IDs? That would make a passport unnecessary.

I agree, they need to get compliant.

I would never not have a passport, but for some reason this board loves to belittle people that don't have/want a passport.

I guess other states' citizens like going to the DMV.

We finally got online renewals. It looks like this requirement will do away with that.

Im not sure why anyone would trust the TSA after having to deal with them at the actual airport and then reading all the reports about their complete and utter failure in most cases. A simple conversation with them reveals that almost all of their employees shouldn't be trusted to run a cash register at the local walmart.

If proof of citizenship isn't required, why are some people required to bring proof when others are not to the dmv?

I'm not shitting on just LA. I'm shitting on all 4 states plus American Samoa for not having their shite together.

But keep on thinking everything is about you like all LSU fans seem to do.

I was replying to a poster who said his state was compliant and that's what he had to do.

Why would I be mad at my own state for a federal requirement?

B/c that is STILL the state's fault for not having a worthwhile system in place and not being compliant w/a an ID change they knew full well needed to happen.

I just renewed my license here in Texas and did it over the computer. I've done it in person at city hall as well and did not need all the documentation you apparently do in Georgia. That's on Georgia for having a shitty system.

LA, NH, NY, and MN all had time to change their IDs to comply w/the new standards and failed to do so.

That is a STATE problem and you should take your complaints to the state that has made things far more difficult than things need to be.

So every five years you have to take a day off work to get this done.

In GA you can get a license that lasts 10 years instead of 5. Don't be a cheap arse and spend the extra 10 dollars. I just did it and had a completely different, positive experience.

Only around 20 states have actually done it BTW.

And Texas isn't one.

I already have a passport but if it caused my travel to be delayed I would take up w/state reps. State gov't is responsible for getting things in order on the mandate.

Texas isn't fully compliant yet so you don't know what it will be like when we are fully done. We are only compliant with 23 of the 39 requirements of REAL ID and have an extension. Don't get all high and mighty because we're not fully done as Georgia is.

So no discussion whatsoever on if the mandate is needed? Federal government said so, therefore it MUST be "worthwhile?"

I don't really know much about the law to know the backdoor requirements....I think the main point of contention is that it requires state databases to fully interface with the federal government (as well as the Canadian and Mexican governments I tbink).

But I sure as hell know that you don't know either, you crawfishing son of a bitch.

Don't even try to sidestep with talk that "it doesn't affect me, I have a passport." You just ignorantly dogged another state using Texas as an example because you thought they were already compliant.

Newsflash: LA has already submitted the same paperwork as Texas to give us an extension of exemption. It just hasn't been approved yet.

I dogged Georgia for having a shite process to renew a license.

Not having the option to do it online these days is weak sauce.

If Texas fails to get everything in order I will dog our state govt for not getting it all together.

However we are currently not under the threat of needing a passport to travel b/c we are getting whatever needs to be done taken care of.

Again, if people want to bitch about this, they need to bitch at their local state govts that are dragging arse.

what difference does it make?

its already been mandated and now its up to the states to get compliant.

Props for showing back up, but you misread my initial post.

I said "if" that was a requirement, it would be a PITA.
I'm not gonna dog my state b/c of a numb-nutted, poorly executed federal requirement that they haven't even instituted yet. I can always dog them about something else.

Also, 7 > 5. November 28th. It's coming.
