That's awesome. Why wasn't this information "known" before this weekend? Not directed at you but it seems like we would've know that Manchac would back up and flow into Great Spanish Lake if the maps show it so clearly.

Re: Airline @ Highland open --
Is it possible to turn from Airline onto Highland toward Perkins (i.e., toward Healing Place)?

Soon. I didn't see any water that direction. But you are dealing with a bridge that likely needs to be inspected.

Honestly Silverfox in the speed of all of the flooding people looked back to the hydrological maps. From what I gather a ton has changed since they were drawn.

That water that they dammed up on Airline now has to flow somewhere.
Seems like it would back up and flow across Highland???

The OB has a bunch of posters that have been rescuing people for days. They have been moving down following the flood waters. Might try asking there.

Super, so all your speculation from the other night did not take into account any runoff into Alligator Bayou and Great Spanish Lake?
Do care to guestimate how servere flooding would've been up WC and BF if not for Great Spanish Lake?

We went by holy rosary yesterday. There wasn't a house with less than 3 foot of water in it.

Rosary area in St Amant?
The Saint Amant Fire chief was just on tv and said there was one spot of dry land in Saint Amant and it was some event center owned by the Schexnayder family. I forget the name.

I can go if you give me an address, or I can pick you up and go. Or connect with Cajun Navy on Facebook.

Not supernovasky, but I'm pretty sure the flood maps and NWS comments on the flood gages DID take into account that sort of information. It simply wasn't as bad as it could have been for what is likely a litany of reasons. That being said, the gages at Kleinpeter haven't really topped off yet either, so while the threat is likely minimal, it still exists.

I was looking at topo maps and if any of you do the same, something about Spanish Lake Swamp might surprise you. The entire area is 5 foot elevation. The BF/WC system is at least 15-20. IMO it would take an unheard of amount of water to flood the BF/WC system from backflow. I heard that they drained the swamp a long time ago - did they do it after the flood maps were drawn? If so, this swamp should be everyone's favorite body of water now, and those maps need to be redrawn. It has an immense capacity.
Super- First thanks for everything in this thread. Spanish lake basin was drained in 2009. I own some land that backs up to Bayou fountain west of CCLA. The front of my land where my home is at about 35 feet and it drops all the way down to 5 ft in the woods. My barn is at about 17 feet. Water did not get to it this time. The family I bought the property from built the barn in the 60's. They marked the high water mark of the 83 flood which would have been around the 20 foot mark, putting 3 feet of water in the barn. My current flood line sits at 15 feet, the line was moved back in 2012 according to the effective FIRM. The historical FIRM was where they marked. I have no doubt that if the Spanish lake basin was full, 4-6 feet of water would have been in my barn, it would have wiped out thousands of homes along BF...

Ascension - I drove from 621 at JD Broussard, to 73 under the interstate through Dutchtown up to 74 and then took that down to KC road and back to Babin Road. I didn't see any issues at all.
The bridge at that curve on Babin is still washed out, but that's a rainfall overflow (it does that with any heavy rain). Not sure how that little bayou connects, but it could be a vulnerability.
My question is whether Lake Maurepas and the Manchac Pass are handling all of this. I guess they are as I haven't read anything about it.

She has DEMCO right? Last I saw they've only restored parts of central and Greenwell springs. My neighborhood had 0 flooding and I haven't had power since Sunday morning. Not sure why it's taking longer to restore power to areas unaffected by flooding than to some of the more flooded areas
