I have a friend who is trying to get from Covington to Denham Springs to help out family in need. Is this possible to do today or are the roads unaccessable? I see both lanes of I-12 are open, but I'm not sure how much water is still on the roads in DS. TIA.

Good stuff. Kind of confirms what we thought was happening during the event a couple nights ago.
Question that I don't fully understand is why aren't the flood maps updated to comprehend this swamp as a buffer?

Are yall watching this live rescue on WBRZ? They were trying to get an older couple out of this trailer but had to wait to wrangle up their 9 cats first

Friends have a house full of rescued people and are now taking on water. Photo just taken out the upstairs back window.
This is a neighborhood by St Amant High. Apologies for not knowing the name. Six inches in the house so far.

quote:It has definitely gone down. You can see grass between the lanes now that had been covered for quite awhile. Hopefully soon.
On the traffic cam for I-10/Bayou Manchac, some DOTD vehicles are able to drive across, so maybe a foot left to go before that portion of I-10 gets a chance to dry?

Hypothetically, if the swamp was not there, with the amount of water seen on manchac, would Springlake subdivision have flooded? Tia

No worries. They just got rescued! Thanks for your efforts

Thanks Shell. It looks like it's falling....but that may be temporary if the New River is rising

I am trying to get reports on the Claycut Bayou watershed to see how this flood compared with the 83 flood.
So far reports have the Jones Creek watershed shattering records, but Bayou Fountain and Manchac doesn't seem to be so devastating.
Bad yes, but not the tremendous rise JC had.
Now Ascension is an entirely different animal.

Good points on the swamp. I noticed that was there a couple nights ago when looking at all the stuff. But honestly I assumed it was connected to bayou manchac and had already filled this making it useless for storage. How had it not already been filled?

From what I understand, yes. It seems as if without spanish lake, not only would Springlake have been under, but also places further down burbank and highland as well.
