re: 300 blackout deer round
Posted by misterc on 11/30/25 at 1:38 pm to Canvasback
Another plus one for the Hornaday 190 if going subsonic and good with ~100 yard or less shots. Daughter took down one Friday with it. Deer kicked when shot and walked 10 yards where it fell over before she could chamber a second round. If you knock the lungs out its quick and quiet.

Ive hunted a good bit just a few miles NW that area years back coming from US 84. I had a piece of private land I had access to that would allow me much deeper access into the national forest. I got my arse handed to me twice back there. One year I left my truck at daybreak and started hiking up a hill. I had a storm roll up on me as i crested the top of a peak around 2pm, I immediately left the herd I was following and started heading back down. It went to white out conditions and my gps wouldn't catch a signal. I missed my extraction point to my truck. I made it back to the truck at 4am. The next year I went back in October and killed a large bull. 3 of us hauled it out in one trip right in front of a storm. I couldn't move for a couple days after that. While this was 15 years ago, I remember it being very hard to predict weather around there. Im sure now with sat function you can see it better but it seemed to pop up out of no where a couple times on me. Hoping for a miracle but its not looking good for these young men.

intercooler hose failure
This is the most common "shotgun Sound" Failure. Ive blown one on all 3- 6.7s ive had. After it blows replace that crap plastic with a metal aftermarket replacement. I would not let them put another plastic piece on if you plan on keeping the truck. its an easy DIY. you should be able to pop the hood and see a black pipe thats cracked or shattered feeding the turbo housing. 6.7s are way too restricted from the factory for plastic

image search will show you exactly where to look
You can buy both in the secondary market. Employees will sell some stock for liquidity etc and these both can be bought pre IPO. Its almost always going to get stepped on between brokers unless you have a direct connection. If you're looking for 1mm plus in openAI, I have a source.
Much easier solution- Any accredited investor can buy both at Forge
They'll likely have you buy 100k of each and hit you with about 4 percent in fees due to demand for both stocks

re: Anyone Loading Subsonic .308?

I could not get a consistent output. The issues is the powder is going to be sloshing around in the case causing inconsistent burn. way too much case, not enough powder. I can cycle in my 7.62 HK but couldn't get decent accuracy. I gave up and am building a 338 arc and keeping my 300 blackouts for subsonic use.

I've used this one for 8 years bow hunting, blows everything else I've ever used out of the water. Very compact and still razor sharp on original blade. Very quiet and easy to use in early bow season. I don't know what you could improve...

My people a couple plantations over say there is no water pressure, I think they threw all they had on it but couldn't stop it.
re: Yall ever try the “Ikejime” Japanese way of killing fish?

We do it on the Pelagics we boat. Run a wire cable through the spinal cord and your stop the nerves from firing through the meat immediately. I can tell a difference in the meat quality, fish stays firmer longer. I also get my fish in an ice slurry right after then immediately vacuum packed when cut. I've noticed it seems to keep Tuna\Swords at a higher quality when frozen for extended times.

But I’m not sure if I want him learning on an AR platform
I made one hunt with an AR with a kid, then switched and started the rest on bolt actions.
At first its so much more about teaching proper handling and gun safety.
I want them carrying the gun to the stand, I want to hand them the bullet have them load it, put safety on and off, always keep in safe direction etc.
You carrying it all out there, putting the gun in a bog, lining it up and tell them to shoot that deer is not teaching them the critical skills to not hurt themselves or others.
My kids cant quietly load an AR. Maybe some of ya'lls Rambo Jrs can.
This all reminds me of what I view as a major flaw in the Ruger american Gen 2 which use AR clips. It comes with a 5 round AR clip in a 10 round body. It sticks out way too low past receiver for my liking
Kids cant grip the gun, doesn't fit in vise, harder to prop up on stand, pain in the arse to carry on shoulder strap.
I took some 30 round clips and cut them down to make custom 4 round flush clips. Took me a day to make these, but they came out great. Theres a thread online you can search that shows how to make them. The only thing I did different was I plastic epoxy welded mine to make them stronger. There is a guy who was going to start making an aftermarket flush clip for these. whoever gets to market first could sell a ton of them.

What have your results been shooting deer with subsonic .300blk? What ammo are you using?
I’m cooking up some rounds but they are similar specs to these:

Friend of a friend’s kid has killed 6 with the hornadys.
Never lost one and all died sub 100 yards
And for the expert who blanket thinks subsonic is unethical. I suppose I can’t use my bow or a muzzleloader either. A well placed subsonic bullet in the vitals will kill just as good. I’m teaching my kid to make great shots in close range, and not solely rely on hydrostatic shock because she puts a half arse shot due to flinching. I also don’t have to worry about the bullet breaking into 5 pieces on impact. A well engineered subsonic round can be absolutely devastating by providing a clean mushroomed round at impact. I will move her up to supersonic and stronger rounds when I know it will not compromise accuracy. Also I do not recommend shooting 308 subsonic. Too much case to powder sloshing around causes accuracy issues with running 308 subsonic. Powder burns unevenly and will sling bullets all over. If you want a larger subsonic look into an 8.6 ARC or 8.6 blackout. I’m building an 8.6ARC now to run my thermion 2 on.
I started my daughter (8) with a 308 suppressed then also got the 300 blackout. She got a case of target panic from the 308. The 300 blkout is fine to 100 yards but I do not let her shoot past 125 yards with subsonic due to ballistics. I also put a can on the 300 which makes it almost dead silent with subsonic ammo. I was able to fix her target panic and have her shooting a 1 MOA group at 100 yards consistently. I can move her to supersonic ammo then I'll move her back to the 308 in a year or 2 so she can extend her range. FWIW I did have to shave the barrel back to be able to fully screw the cans down on the gen2 barrel.
I've done worse
might also be a goat, pig and a dog in the pen.....
Is third leg going?
This citizen reminded me of Greg Olsen, "G-Reg with the third leg" from the 7th floor crew.

I once asked my old man about the value of a Belgium Diana grade in our family.
He said it's worth whatever joy you get putting it up on the wall and jacking off to it....
Go with your number if they make you happy, sounds like a nice set....
A call to collectors firearms in Houston may help you confirm where market is on them.
