Oh okay perfect. Glad to know she is okay and it's all dry over there. Hopefully they won't turn the power off. S Harrell's Ferry was almost completely flooded at 3 and still rising so I can't imagine how bad it is now.

At this point, though, I think he is being too alarmist and extreme backflow will not be happening on the upper areas of Bayou Fountain.

This

Based on your past predictions people are going to be taking what you say very seriously and if what you say makes them try to leave in the middle of the night it could actually be more dangerous for them

Again, I respect what you have done and you have no doubt helped many. But if you are just an average joe and your swamp theory is just all speculation, you should make that more clear

I get what Mike is saying, but I'll stop - I just really don't want people caught up in flooding and lots of people got out early from rising waters in their areas because I pointed out that they were expected to rise. At this point, all we really can do is watch and wait. But judging from what I'm seeing posted, Bayou Fountain is rising at Bluebonnet right now - it was not a few hours ago. Lots of homes along that area are likely to be flooded after going to bed thinking they were safe.

I'd honestly much prefer to air on the side of caution, and these maps were drawn showing that these places would flood from significant back water flooding.

This is the excerpt for the current level on the Amite, which is now 5 feet higher than what this excerpt says:

"16 Homes along Highland Road and Burbank Drive will be flooded. Both streets will be impassable. Major roads will be impassable. Access to property along the river is cut off. Homes along Kendalwood Road that are not elevated will be flooded. Extensive backwater flooding will occur along Bayou Fountain and Bayou Manchac."

I don't think it's alarmist to go with the NWS's projections, honestly.

Had friends got stranded for 26 hours on the overpass at Holden exit. They were on the way to Destin on vacation.

Does it look like they will be able to get back to their car and get on the road tomorrow ?

His swamp theory has merit. All weather is speculation. If manchac is rising but has the swamp to alleviate the rise it makes sense that it is slow. Once that avenue is full it is no different than the crest. The water can't go there any longer and must go upstream and the true rate of back flooding will be seen. That will be quicker than current rates.

you think bayou fountain area is going to be okay? i have other family who lives along swamp road near the railroad tracks on the old perkins side. any idea about that area?

Who the hell knows.

All im saying is I wouldn't make any major moves AT NIGHT (can be very dangerous crossing water at night) unless we have more sound information than a traffic cam that looks like the water is maybe a foot higher.

The swamp buffer zone is just a theory

Fireworks near the lower lake in lakeside subdivision. They did one last night too. Boneheaded thing to do really.

As a heads up, the area just upstream from the swamp/Siegen and Highland/Bluebonnet and Highland/Burbank is still rising about 1/3 a foot an hour.

I checked CNN's website earlier and the only thing I saw on there was a single link towards the bottom of the page with a quote from JBE. That really irked me. People are dying, thousands are now without homes and in shelters. We are seeing the worst of mother nature and the very best of humanity in this situation, and there is ZERO national coverage. It's really fricked up, imo.

But did you hear what TRUMP just said?????

Water ain't rising anymore. House may be spared, which means some in Camelot may escape water in the house too.
