If anyone want to help tomorrow, I've heard of a staging area on Choctaw around N Sherwood. I'm going to check in the morning and see if there are any other areas that need help.

Update from Shenandoah/Oneal lane/Jones Creek-- Oneal closed on Shenadoah side, not sure about near Walmart/Centurion etc. Forced evacs of apartments near St Jean Vianney School. Police shut down road and escorted people with no cars to buses staged at Penecostal Church on Jones Creek. Creek where new construction bridge is being built flowing over banks. Homes in jeopardy as well. Neighbohood adjacent is filling with water. Creek near Antioch /white oak side of Shenandoah over banks and flooding bridge that you cross to enter neighborhood. It's getting real here in Shenandoah, and I do not think we will be high and dry for long. Husband seems to think we'll be okay. I am not so sure.

Thanks for the update.

Good work on explaining the backwater process. I'll add that the FEMA flood maps for the tributary bayous (Ward, Fountain, etc.) were studied for an event on those respective watersheds. The base flood elevations are not mapped for backwater from the Amite.

Add in the fact that the crest of the Amite at Manchac will smash the previous record, and it's anyone's guess as to how the tributaries will react to the backwater. We can look at elevations and guess, but unless a similar scenario has been modeled, I just don't think we can be sure how fast, how far, and for how long the water will move back up these bayous. Perhaps somebody out there has done a model for the Parish - it would be nice to know.

Is i10 drivable from New Orleans to BR? Flying in tomorrow and will have to make the drive tomorrow night. I've heard that some parts are flooded pretty bad.

Down there now, it's fine.
It looks like an afternoon thunderstorm rolled through and that's it.

BR & Surrounding areas 10-15" of rain expected through the middle of next week

Alright, I set up a picture of what this person is saying:

The X is where the crest is, moving down stream. That will be where all points upstream will experience peak backflow. Just because the crest has not arrived does not mean backflow is not ocuring. It just means that when it arrives, backflow will be at its peak.

The red line is Jones Creek area - it almost seems certain that the river is either flowing backwards or it is backing up (flowing forwards at a rate far too slow to empty, thus filling the area around it).

Here is the gauge for Jones Creek:

You can see how just recently it has started increasing its depth. NO new rain has fallen, so we can only conclude that the way that it is increasing its depth is through backing up.

Follow the gauge here

We have yet for the crest to reach the blue X, the Manchac/Amite point. That is when similar backflow will happen throughout Clay cut (first) and then Fountain.

Yeah Jones Creek is high as frick. That little neighborhood on the north side of the creek and west side of Jones Creek Rd is threatened and I know they never thought they'd see the day.

The Shenandoah neighborhood is not threatened. But it's very bad right outside on Oneal and Tiger Bend.
