not disagreeing with you there. Just stating to be a Sheriff's Deputy in EBR all you need is to sign a paper. To be in the BRPD, you have to be recruited and fill out an APPLICATION.

You can't include Parkview. It's private.

Being unfamiliar with the entry requirements for both groups of pop-up, that point was totally anecdotal. I've met a few sheriff officers and a few city cops before. None of the EBRSO had a napoleonic complex. The city cops were too close to all the wrong characters in super troopers.
If that's the best rebuttal of my post, though, I'll take it.

Are those the same parish services that the SG supporters are always complaining about because they are inadequate? Those services, right? The same fire protection that is a full notch below BR's fire rating causing SG property owners to have considerably higher homeowner's insurance? That fire prorection?
This is incorrect most insurance companies have no rate difference between a Class 1 rating (BRFD) and a Class 2 rating (St. George Fire). Just check with your agent.

Why would anyone be against St George?

I agree about BRPD (Kip Holden's Thug Force) is a joke with a complex.
BRPD is protected by civil service.
They had a BRPD officer that did not do his reports for over a year and it took an act of congress to fire him.
Sheriff if he tells you to do something and you do not do it you are fired.
My father called BRPD for over a year about a huge drug house. A BRPD Officer came over and threatened my father and the head of narcotics said it was users not sellers in my area. Next night the Sheriff busted the house which seemed like the BRPD was protecting.
I called Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and in two days their Narcotics officer had pictures, real names, and who the distributor was along with times they come in the area. In one week they did what the BRPD could not do in a year shutting down the drug house. Which these people also went to Broadmoor to steal from people and bring the goods back here to sell at the local pawn shops.
If BRPD cared they would have busted this house and people sooner than the Sheriff's office.
They had a stolen fairly new Toyota SUV parked at the drug house with the alarm going off. After 15 minutes I called BRPD. They were busy and said they could not respond. Called the Sheriff in 15 minutes they responded, recovered the vehicle while guys were stripping the radio out of it, and the person in Broadmoor got their SUV back.
Now who do you want to protect you the useless overpaid worthless BRPD (Kid Holden's Thug Force) or the Sheriff's office who is elected by the people of this parish.

He's not talking about Parkview Baptist, he's referring to Parkview Elementary which is a public school in Parkview Oaks.

Since this thread has turned into a voice your opinion thread...
I'm an outsider living in Ascension parish, so I won't have a vote.
I'm a very fiscally conservative kinda person, but having tried to evaluate this objectively, I don't think City of St. George is a good idea.
Take those tax dollars away from City of BR, and it's going to go down big time. It's not in the best interest of anyone to live next to a slum... including those new St. George residents.
Careful what you ask for...

Maybe the good people of Praireville should kick a little something in for Baton Rouge too...
Posted on 1/12/14 at 10:28 am to LT
You do realize that Prairieville could be apart of this new city if they want to be annexed in as well. They are unincorporated. I think that is where this is moving eventually. Of course at that point they may be able to get a whole new parish out of the deal and that would really centralize the power and the money.
Be careful for what you ask for because if you don't ask for it you never know what you could have had.

Good point.
But we do. Many of work there, and most of us spend plenty of dollars there, sales tax dollars.
Friend, I do NOT like sending tax dollars to ANYONE else, but really, think about how it will affect everything around you.
This debate is in its infancy, don't rush to a decision yet...

Ascension bonded Praireville to the gills in the last tax election. Just about every penny of their revenue is earmarked for the foreseeable future. They would actually have to raise taxes to incorporate.

(Assuming BR city doesn't generate enough revenue to self-sustain).

They can post anything they want about BR city credit rating, or police and fire services, or call everyone racist, or brag on being able to use excel, or claim victory for themselves, but none of them have been able to address the real issue.....
Non-select high school public education.
And they can't. It's a moot point.

So all I could go by was your word that you were using school ratings from 2011, a full two school years ago of ratings. Why not use the 2013 ratings which are available? Could it be because you prefer to lie and hope no one checks your facts and catch you in that lie????
Could it be you don't want the facts known that the EBR school system, while still needing much improvement, has improved greatly since the federal courts ended their supervision and the school system as a whole has greatly improved their academic achievements proven by the fact since 2008 when the system was released back to the supervision of the school board the percent of A + B rated schools has DOUBLED?!? And since that same year the percent of D and F schools in EBR has dropped from more than 75% of the schools to less than half?
Still a long way to go, but vast improvement has been shown since the federal court got out of the way. The trend is definitely in a good direction.

So the people of St George are seeing their tax dollars collected and shipped away to the king in BR and are getting tired if it, and they are ready to break away from the kingdom and start their own colony, or city......kinda reminds me of something that happened a couple hundred years ago, looks like it worked out well, despite many opponents, maybe it is time to have a party, a tea party that is?
