Well we don't have a loop and as time goes by the chances of ever getting one get slimmer.
And I agree, it gets less likely as time goes by. Another local government being added into the mix won't improve the chances.

You're welcome.
I suppose exposing the creative and unsubstantiated budgets of the SG leaders and making intelligent people at least challenge those leaders to back up their "we don't need no stinkin' new taxes" claims does help solidify support for the new city.

Considering you can't read a budget
quote:Are those the same parish services that the SG supporters are always complaining about because they are inadequate? Those services, right? The same fire protection that is a full notch below BR's fire rating causing SG property owners to have considerably higher homeowner's insurance? That fire prorection?
You forget the parish services we receive already.
The same police protection that has 95 uniformed sheriff's deputies dispersed into 3 substations throughout SG City protecting 107,000 residents, meaning on any given 8 hour shift, 7 days a week there are fewer than 30 uniformed officers patrolling 85 sq miles of SG and protecting those 107,000 residents? That protection? Compared to the 886 uniformed police officers in BR covering 79 sq miles and 230,000 residents. That's the comprehensive police protection the residents of SG are currently so pleased to have?
And don't forget that BRPD will likely cancel the cooperative agreement it has with the EBRSO which provides the CSI services, including forensic lab services, to the EBRSO which doesn't have its own lab. And BRPD will also cancel the agreement with EBRSO to take traffic and crime emergency calls in SG when the sheriff's office can't handle those calls within a certain timeframe because of a call backlog.
Yeah, let's just pretend those things won't happen and more taxes won't be needed to secure the safety of SG citizens. Why don't we just pretend there will be no more crime while we're at it? Think of the money THAT would save!

"Sales taxes collected in Baton Rouge are placed n the Baton Rouge Fund. Sales taxes collected in Baker go into the Baker Fund. Sales taxes collected in Zachary go into the Zachary Fund. Sales taxes collected in Central go into the Central Fund. And sales taxes collected in the unincorporated parts of the parish are deposited into the Unincorporated Fund.
The money in the Baton Rouge Fund is used by Baton Rouge, and so on. But here’s where it gets “astounding.”
The cost of running Constitutional offices in the parish is $17.7 million. This is for the 19th Judicial District, Family Court, Juvenile Court, District Attorney, Registrar of Voters and Coroner. Then there is another $8.5 million that is used to fund the Parish Prison, Juvenile Services, Animal Control, and so on.
Guess where the money comes from?
All $26.2 million comes from the Unincorporated Fund!
The citizens of the unincorporated areas of the parish pay 100 percent of these expenses! Not one penny in sales taxes collected in Baton Rouge, Baker, Central or Zachary helps pay these expenses!
The next step is the kicker. After this $26.2 million is taken out of the Unincorporated Fund, there remains about $52 million. All of this money is then transferred to the City of Baton Rouge!"

I don't remember any complaining about our fire and sheriff's... We like ours. Given the choice between BR city cops and a sheriff's dept cop, who would you rather show up? I can carry on a conversation with the latter and not feel like I'm chatting with a walking GED wearing a badge.
Also, please don't try to defend EBRPSS. Honest question : would you put your kid in for middle and high school? And as you just noted, the lottery system at BR High precludes a cute little "Well I'll just send them to BRMHS." It's a lottery. You don't plan for that. You hope for it and plan their fallback.
I sincerely think you've come as close as one can to untangling the budget knot, but these three facts are why communication with you seems to be at an impasse:
1. As everyone here agrees, you, nor I have all the answers to where all the money is coming from or flowing to.
2. In the event taxes would need to be raised, the vast majority of the St George folks are fully on board, if it means a chance at a functional local system. We'll roll the dice to beat the status quo.
3. The "But, your St George leaders are lying to you" argument has no traction with us. We've seen our own elected officials on multiple levels lash out at us publicly and privately the last few weeks. So what if Bodi has some agenda? At least he cares enough to hide it. (not to mention, you cannot seriously tell me the city leaders are pristine defenders of truth). Everyone else has publicly spit in our face. They have made it clear they are not the answer we're looking for. Again - I'd rather roll the dice.

And you criticize politicians for lying?

Woodlawn HS is a C, not a D rated high school. McKinley is a C, not a D.
You are trying soooo hard to prove your point, that you have resorted to defending EBR schools. Good luck, you'll need it with that position.

And you noticeably omitted BRMHS and Parkview Elementary and Shenadoah Elementary

You've lost all credibility.

That's not true at all. Why resort to a campaign of misinformation? Sadly, many people in the St George area will eat this BS up, which I guess is the point.
People in the city limits of BR pay all the same general parish taxes that people in unincorporated areas do + additional taxes for the city of BR.

And this is supposed to support your case against SG?
How will any of this change if SG isn't incorporated..........?
Here's a hint, in case you're too dumb to figure it out, they won't.
You've now stooped to pointing out CSI and 911 assistance.
How about addressing the huge gap between non-select BR public high schools and the non-select public high schools in the suburbs?
If you claim there isn't a substantial gap, you're as big a liar as John Delgado.

Noone fully understands the budget yet (maybe LT does.
It's an emotional appeal to say the Un-incorporated ppl aren't getting a fair deal, which may be true. But neither he or you are correct about the revenue distribution b/c neither of you know for sure.

Do you want the burden of proving them wrong?
Have you even looked at the budget? Or are you just talking out of your arse?

I know of a ebr sheriff's deputy right now that failed the GED test 5 (f i v e) times before passing it. You're full of shite. It is much much easier to get a job with the ebr sheriff than it is to get into BRPD rookie academy.

I'm glad you are correcting all of my short comings on the EBR budget - you have to be an expert at this stuff. I don't believe I'm talking out my arse, but you can believe that if you wish.
Just sharing my opinion on this matter - I live in the proposed SG city and will let Joel Boe' know my feelings. Ain't the Internet great?

There are several more hurdles to jump to get in the BRPD.
EBR all you really need is to know someone. It favors you to be a good o' country music listenin boy from Central on up through Clinton, with an occasional LP or Ascension deputy in the mix that knows how to talk huntin' n fishin'
