March 4, 2002: John Chapman, an Air Force Combat Controller, along with a SEAL Team, are attempting to rescue their lost teammate. You'll watch Chapman's stunning and heroic actions as he saves the lives of his entire SEAL team, and another 18 members of a quick-reaction force, to earn America's highest honor: The Medal of Honor.

I'm sure it is great and all, but you can't tell shite from that video.

Is someone peeling onions in here?

One of my AF Hombres...

That guy was a beast, no doubt.
I have to question the tactics of the rest of the guys up there. They get off the bird and bunch up in a tight circle. I get creating a perimeter but that was a tight group. One grenade kills everyone in a situation like that. Where was the suppressing fire against the bunker? I’m not sure about now but how to assault a pillbox was part of the standard tactics taught in basic training. Those guys are SEALS I would have expected their tactics to be better. Maybe the navy doesn’t teach basic infantry tactics...

Well it’s true. The SEALs should stay in the water where they belong.

I don’t blame the seals, I blame the guy in command of the raid. You have to consider, these guys are trained like professional athletes. They are the best. Imagine you go to a Saints game and they don’t know how to run a passing play. Even though you haven’t played at the professional level, let’s say you played some college ball, you’d expect more than that. You’d maybe feel like you could comment on that.
Here is a link to the field manual for platoon and squad infantry tactics. LINK
Please help me find the bunch up and hold your fire method of fire and maneuver on a fixed position.
There are basic fire and maneuver principles that are drilled in to soldiers from day one. I would expect they would follow those at the least.

Read Robert's Ridge. It explains the entire fight. They didnt even know the enemy was there. They expected a clear LZ and the initial helo was hit with an RPG causing Roberts to fall out. When they exit the helo, they were getting rained down on from a superior fighting position and the mountain face was steep with no cover. I believe there are other videos on youtube that show footage and explanations.
ETA: the entire operation was a clusterfrick from jump street. Started with friendly fire and ended on the mountain peak with another soldier (pararescue, I think) dying bc high command wouldnt send a evac helo

If you know what is going on you absolutely can. Plus there is other video information not released that provides different data.

A few things -
1 its night, and SEALs do bunch up on deboarding regularly to do a quick assesment.
2 - the incline they were on was damn near vertical, you can't tell it on the video but they were actually somewhat under cover by the terrain.
3- the SEALs have put so many people through in the last 5-10 years they aren't what they used to be. There are 60% or more people wearing a Trident that historically would not have made it out of BUDs - not hating just a fact.
4-CCT has not been under the same numbers crunch and still have the selection process they have pretty much always had
5- To be honest in most circumstances CCTs are better operators anyway (AF all they way)
6- Chapman was a bad arse and that is pretty much all that really needs to be focused on.

Which means it all started with a SEAL fricking up. If he is in proper position in the shithook he doesn't fall out even with the sudden impact of a RPG. That was the first thing my son said - my son happens to be a 15T Crew Chief with them guys flying those shithooks (What Blackhawk guys calls Chinooks).
