often felt that way about MUCH of The Beatles' work product. I don't know if that was his permanent conclusion on the topic.
He probably did. That was probably a product of being murdered in 1980. He never got to reach national treasure status. Never got to play at all the fundraisers. You know he’d had been all up in Live Aid and shite like that. “Concerts for George”. Of course he may have just stayed insufferable with Yoko. Making weird music that was too edgy for anyone except other musicians.

Producer? Manager?
You may be right if he was that guy that babysat them and could keep a lid on people.
Wonder what poor Ringo thought about it deep down? Had to know he was just a solid drummer and he was losing his chance to work with 3 great musicians. Of course he may have been oblivious and thought he was the GOAT drummer.

I think they could’ve squeezed out another good album or 2. George had tons of material ready to go, if the others would’ve let him. They were definitely better together than solo, but they still made a few notable solo hits, just would’ve been more and better if they stayed together.

Fifty years ago, the Beatles broke up

I’m far from a Beatles diehard. Personally I prefer the Stones. But my comment is not incorrect. The Beatles were the worlds most popular band and completely reshaped popular music.

Agreed. They were groundbreaking for sure and changed the whole music industry. FACT .

My parents made such a big deal about The Beatles when I was a kid that I developed a dislike of them. Until I really started listening to them around the age of 16.
I don’t believe in having a favorite band but also can’t say anyone is better than they were. Hard to digest how many great songs were written in such a short period of time.

He was their manager. He was the one who invented the Beatles. Yes John, Paul and George were already a group but he took them on as manager and crafted their style that brought them to world fame. Not as much their music but just as importantly their look and stage performance.
And as for Ringo Starr when he sat in with the Beatles the first time John Paul and George all looked at each other and said now we have a professional drummer. They would all go on to say that Ringo made the Beatles.
He may not have been the greatest drummer but he was perfect for the style of music that was the Beatles.

The comment is an objective observation.
During the 60’s, it was the Beatles and then everyone else. Everyone was 1-2 years behind them. They upped everyone’s game, whether you liked them or not.

My point was the poster said “I appreciate what they did for the music scene” and the other guy had to come in and dress him down for not being grandiose enough.

Ringo gets a bad rap because he didn't have but 1-2 writing credits, but he did something interesting on almost every track.

Yeah I guess that’s fair, went back and read what he was responding to. But as we get further out from when it happened, it is still notable what an impact they actually had. They weren’t just the most popular band at the time, they were pioneers in recording, unconventional compositions (no more 2 verses, guitar solo, finish the song formula- which they also used early on), concept albums, making the studio to create your image more important than live sets...they are fairly objectively the most important thing to happen to modern music

While My Guitar Gently Weeps has zero mentions in this thread and I just want to pipe in and say I love The Beatles and that is my favorite Beatles song by my favorite Beatle.

Well in true OT fashion a thread to celebrate the band is mainly filled with people saying they suck with a couple fanboys knighting for them.

Maybe you are just more of a Lennon fan than McCartney.
I always enjoyed Lennon's stuff better than Paul's. Paul was too bubble gum sappy for me. Best example ever of the difference is in the same song, "We Can Work It Out." Lennon's sections are just so much better. Personal preference of course.
"A Day in the Life" as well.

Ringo knew/knows exactly his role. He was brought it as an older, experienced musician to help guide the rest along. He knew he wasn't the best drummer in the world, but he knew how to bring out the best in the others.
Watch this guy explain Ringo's value:
"Good Drummer"

I hear you. Would you mind linking some of the songs that are unique in that way? I'll gladly take a listen.
Revolver is such an incredible album. It was on the verge of when times were changing in the 60's and you essentially get to witness how the mindset of society changed simply through listening to the beatles music
The Help! album was released in August 1965 and, while still great, every song was about love. A year later they released Revolver in which the final song is literally John Lennon coaching listeners through an acid trip
You gotta listen to the whole album start to finish (it's only like 40 minutes long) but some of my favorites are:
Taxman
I'm Only Sleeping
Here, There, and Everywhere
For No One
Tomorrow Never Knows
She Said, She Said

Jax...I’m with you bro. Just never got the vibe that the Beatles were Godlike but I guess someone had to be celebrated first. I suppose if I had been born in the late 1940’s/50’s I might have felt different. Idk.
