Satanic Panic
It was a cultural response to the 80s and went into the 90s.
You saw bleedover from it into Magic: The Gathering and video games.
Once again boomers suck for laying the foundation of outrage culture with their Mrs Lovejoys and soccer momming bullshite back then.
thats deep, but i think that may be part of it

I saw it more in the early 80s than the 90s. It's still going on today though. There'll always be false teachers.

I wasn't allowed to read Harry Potter when it first came out bc it was the devil trying to tempt me to use witchcraft, and I wasn't allowed to watch "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

It's on to third world pastures.

Halloween has morphed into adult excuse for darkness and slutty behavior.
When I was a child on long island, Halloween was ignored in my house.
We had one person come to door when I was 6 or 7 and my grandmother told them we don't do it.
In the 50s in jersey suburbs kids dressed up as superman and ballerinas.
The darkness came in with heavy metal.

I had a friend who's mom held on to that for the longest time. I'd leave cheap copies of the necronomican in his room, thumbed through, dog earred. Always some good entertainment as she Sheilaed about it.

The only thing I remember about 90's spirituality was that the Christian music of that day sucked major arse

Not from South LA but I heard these teachings as of 2005.
I remember very well a sermon from the youth pastor about satanic symbolism in Halloween. This was 2005.
I’ve heard about the RFID scanners in your hands too. Apparently, that’s how the mark of the beast will play out.
I have family that doesn’t eat Lucky Charms because they don’t believe in luck. God either blesses you or he doesn’t. These same family members are stone cold sober, as in they’ve never had a sip of booze in their life. They 100% do not celebrate Halloween. They had a biblical Halloween party at their church a few years ago. Everyone showed up dressed like a shepherd or Jesus.
I have an uncle who believes certain NFL fanbases engage in impermissible, sinful worship of their favorite heroes (Saints - Brees, e.g.).
Lots of different folks out there

The sad part about this is those people were bullshitting, but that actually is becoming more plausible with time.

Science Fiction is predictive. We'll eventually have those Star Trek gadgets.

Back in the early 90s EVERYTHING was spiritual......Halloween was demonic, Super Mario bros was demonic, most kids TV shows were demonic.....you get the picture
Anyone else have a childhood where everything was banned because it was demonic??
Not me and not 90's but my best friend in the 80's. When the neighborhood first got cable his mom wouldn't let the family get it because cable was evil. Same thing with Halloween.
She also banned some video games. I remember for xmas he got a Sega Genesis with Altered Beast as a pack in and his mom wouldn't let him play Altered Beast because it was Satanic. The kid was also banned from playing D&D.
The thing is they were Catholic, not Healing Place, Marvin Gorman type people.
His poor dad wanted cable for ESPN and HBO so bad but that woman ran the house with an iron fist. Maybe she had a certain kind of crazy in the bedroom that kept the dad in line with the anti-cable stance. Seems so stupid.

I definitely know what you're talking about.
Looking for hidden messages in movies, yoga and meditation were basically gateways to satanism, etc.

I'm not sure that era might not have been the best era for Christian music. Third Day was a passable rock band. Plus there was a lot of Christian punk and ska. It wasn't very good, but it was different.
Christian music today...woof. The only "good" Christian music now are bands on "secular" labels that are pretty heavily Christian themed.

Probably P&G.
This is from snopes:
quote:
The President of Procter & gamble appeared on the Phil Donahue Show on March 1, 1994. He announced that due to the openness of our society, he was coming out of the closet about his association with the church of Satan. He stated that a large portion of his profits from Procter & Gamble Products goes to support this satanic church. When asked by Donahue if stating this on t.v. would hurt his business, he replied, “THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH CHRISTIANS IN THE UNITED STATES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.”

Yeah mortal kombat was clearly in the demonic column for me as a kid, mom banned me from playing it also took my poster down of mortal kombat I got from game pro magazine which was pretty sweet. I get why she did it any parent wouldn’t let their 7-8 yo kid play that
