The early 90s & the hyper-spiritualization of everything in Non-denom/Evangelical circles

As a kid, me and my family attended a typical "full gospel" church in Denham Springs.
It was similar to your Bethanys, Healing Place, etc.
Back in the early 90s EVERYTHING was spiritual......Halloween was demonic, Super Mario bros was demonic, most kids TV shows were demonic.....you get the picture
Anyone else have a childhood where everything was banned because it was demonic??
What was it with that time period and how everything had to be spooky spiritual?

80's heavy metal was the debil's music and caused you to commit suicide.

Wut
i remember services where the pastor would basically list things your kid should stay away from
hell when NYPD blue came out our church was signing a petition with other churches to try and keep it off the air or something
this may have been unique to south louisiana full gospel churches

I grew up in Baptist territory, and this didn't happen there. Maybe isolated pockets, but not general culture.

I guess now your parents look at you and wonder where they went wrong.

Storefront churches are personality cults run by the head preacher. They can twist the gospel any and every which way. Tax free living seems to be the goal of the operation. I can’t understand why anyone goes to these places.

No, my parents didn't buy into any of that. They also never attended church.

it does explain alot
in reality, most of the people i know that were raised in that same scene, like me, go to non-denom churches now and it isn't ANYWHERE near like that anymore.....people use reason and common sense much more nowadays
i just really feel it was something about the early to mid 90s that parents just fell for anything that was spewed from the pulpit.

80s Rock music played backwards was Satanic...I tried to explain that I never played it backwards, but they didn’t see the logic or the humor of that statement.

shite, i remember one service back around 1995.....Lets call it the "mark of the beast" service..... where a traveling group of individuals would go from church to church with some janky equipment, basically injecting fear and explaining how chips would be implanted into peoples right hands and such, and they had rfid scanners there to scare you
of course they said chips would start with credit cards and then jump to our hands very quickly thereafter

I remember some places we didnt go because the "devil worshipers" hung out there

I do remember one teacher trying to convince the class that General Mills (I think) was a satanic organization.

They had a lot of false teaching and money grabbers during that time for sure. Could be that older generation was easily fooled due to the times they grew up in. idk I go to a non denominational church now, but teach my kids to think for themselves.

Satanic Panic
It was a cultural response to the 80s and went into the 90s.
You saw bleedover from it into Magic: The Gathering and video games.
Once again boomers suck for laying the foundation of outrage culture with their Mrs Lovejoys and soccer momming bullshite back then.
fricking neighbor growing up passed these out for Halloween.

same here, i don't see that same mentality anymore....it was very time specific
I'm guessing the age of information killed it?
