Can't now, could eventually.

Some of you seem to have trouble with words apparently.

Ukraine is doing a lot of the stuff they are doing drone wise with relatively shitty FPV racing drones you can get off Amazon. You don't think the tech is going to vastly improve over the next decade?

The anduril stuff can stop a lot of drones. Can it stop thousands of them at once? Maybe. Maybe not.

Saronics and Anduril say hi. General Atomics isn't snoozing either.

It will be ugly, but we won't be unarmed.

Yeah I don't think people should be dooming over drones or anything, because we will have plenty of them too. But discounting their potential is absolutely foolish.

Saying it can't is fricking retarded.

It could. Not will, not won't. it could. Discounting the possibility, especially after watching the Ukrainians sink Russia's Black Sea fleet with drones in the past 3 years, is completely foolish.

trying to compare russias black sea fleet to anything we have is fricking laughable

So we are going to create countermeasures and they are just going to stop developing anything new to try and bypass them? Is that what you're suggesting?

look let me know when they develop a long range drone with F22 style stealth or a boat/sub drone with stealth and we can talk

and you act like we havent had this kind of warfare before. the same thing you are saying was said about german U-boats...in the end we adapted.

To your point, the Ukes almost certainly had access to US satellite and Rivet Joint intel for targeting those ships. And as you note, those ships did not have a shadow of the capability that the USN has. IIRC the videos of one of the sinkings showed Russian sailors firing small arms at the drones. Against the USN, you'd be facing CIWS and the small rolling airframe missiles.

I wasn't comparing it what we have, I was saying we are in the infancy of drone warfare and that is something that has already happened. Wear blinders if you wish.

If you don't think this is coming IDK what to tell you

And we probably will again.

so we are just going to sit back and let them come to the ship...no defense at all?

are we prepared if they send 500 of them? what about if they are coming from air and sea?

I was responding to a post that said we shouldnt worry about drones because we are surrounded by oceans. regardless of that what if a terrorist group or something attacks from within using drones that are hacked for warfare? how long before someone rigs up a drone/drones to drop an explosive/explosives on to a crowd here in the US? my guess within the next 10 years without a doubt.

Seems like he thinks he knows everything about everything, why would people be calling him an idiot?

Yeah thats the issue, swarms of them hitting aircraft carriers that we can't easily replace and cost multiple times what even thousands of drones would cost.

Seems easier and cheaper to just leave it in a nearby trashcan the night before.

I recall one 60 Minutes “expose” years ago about what a piece of crap the Apache helicopter was and how foolish Pentagon planners were to use it. It supposedly had lots of problems including not being able to operate in dusty, desert like conditions. Shortly after the “expose”, it was to become one of our biggest assets in the Gulf War killing Iraqi tanks, etc.

Drones could eventually make our naval fleet obsolete. Not an exciting prospect for a country who dominates with naval power.

What explosives will a drone deliver that a missle currently can’t and NOT be so big it’s easy to shoot down?

The US is always the last one to the party on these things.

Big Defense doesn’t make enough profit on a $1000 drone so the US will fight $1000 drones with $1,000,000 missles.

Yep. The Russians copy, and adapt to Ukraine innovation. But Russia is second fiddle to Ukraine in drones. The US is very far behind. Hopefully we are learning. The Chinese certainly are.

Ukraine is using drone by string so radio waves can't be blocked vert limited distances. All this talk about drones and yall forget we can knock out electronics on anything we want
