Just because they've been used interchangeably for years doesn't mean it's accurate
Gender is a sociological reflection of sex. They are essentially the same as they are directly tied to one another.

I have no issue with this as having children should be an individual decision. The flip side of actively not having children is no different.
The timing is suspicious but I favor individual liberty in these sorts of matters.

It's really annoying to me that the most fringe people seem to be what everyone associates the Millennial generation, not the millions of normal, hard-working people that will keep the train rolling and figure out solutions to whatever problems we have. Byproduct of the internet age, I guess.
