Chicago PD still uses the Explorer, but Tahoes and Chargers are what I see pretty much everywhere else. It's like the Alabama players fleet, but blue.

when an outfitted P1 costs 40G plus it isn't difficult to spend over a 100,000 on the fleet....

I highly doubt they are paying anywhere close to $60k for the Tahoe. They don't get the soccer mom package with 7 DVD players, heated leather seats, etc.
They may put in $20k worth of mods and gear, but that would apply to any vehicle they use.
And Tahoe doesn't have a monopoly. Most non bum frick departments have switched over to the Ford Edge.
USBP does love their Tahoes. And F150s.

Go look at how much the town or city's municipal court is bringing. These monkey court's where they handle DUI's, marijuana, DV3 cases bring in a shite ton of money with "diversion" programs. AKA keep your arse out of trouble, pay the municipality a few grand and the arrest isnt prosecuted.

In Texas, only about 40 percent of the fines go to municipalities while the other 60 goes to the state.

It also has to be mentioned how much more repairable the tahoes are. The vehicles that are unibody construction once damaged are unable to be repaired. The Tahoe's are built of traditional construction and damaged units can be parted out and used to repair other vehicles and prolongs the life cycle.
I asked a cousin who was over the local sheriff motorpool at one point about that.
Its why they loved the crown Vic and hated the Malibu's and newer unibody vehicles. They were throwaway

I understand that they last longer and wind up with a cheaper cost per mile than a sedan. And GM makes a special package for law enforcement. Most started changing when the crown vic was discontinued.

The Tahoe PPV was $26k on state contract last year. Takes another 8-10k to mark it and install lights and radio. It's not a bad deal for that vehicle. They ride like shite, but you can take a turn at 80 and it sticks.

Civil forfeiture. It's a racket perpetuated by some rural departments. Even if you do get your stuff back they don't even have to give it all to you. And you don't even have to be arrested or charged with a crime for them to seize money.
