It's unreal how much taxpayer money goes to general motors on an annual basis so every cop from sea to shining sea can sport a brand new frathoe. It doesn't matter where you are either. You can be in bumfrick, small-town USA and, sure as shite, there's Barney Fife coming down main Street in a brand new Tahoe with more lights on it than a Christmas tree. How about we get these guys some corrollas or something and increase their pay with the savings and maybe they won't have to work 100 hours of overtime at the movie theater every paycheck to make a decent living

They switched to the Chevy Tahoe in my town because the Ford cruisers were leaking carbon monoxide into the cabin.

It all goes through a bid process

I've always been told that very few vehicles can handle the amount of shite a police car carries and goes through. That's why you only see a select few models of patrol cars across the country.

Well, the Explorers were potentially fatal, so...

You sound jealous. Can't afford a nice comfortable vehicle like a Tahoe?

But the PD is bidding out for SUV's vs. other, likely more economical, sedans was his point.

I know of one small town in North Alabama that in the past two years has spent well over six figures buying Tahoes for their police force. And on top of that the county has probably spent twice as much as that town.

I'd love to see a high speed chase in a Corolla

That includes an estimate of how much cash you can stuff under a table.
Every single part of our governments is corrupt.

The exhaust manifolds crack and leak fumes into the cabin. Ford is trying very hard to pretend it is related to police radios, but civilian versions are also having issues.
It's a big part of why the more expensive Chevrolet Tahoe is becoming a popular police vehicle.

They carry more equipment now than ever and the sedans aren't big enough. Explorer is a good compromise if they don't kill you with carbon monoxide

See St Gabriel, La. They have TWO Camaros and several brand new SUVs for about 4 officers.

I wasn't aware that there were only two vehicles on the market capable of being a police cruiser

Is your Ford Explorer leaking exhaust?
Might be why they are selling Chevrolets and triggering Ford fanboys.
quote:
After monitoring complaints on the issue for two years, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finally launched an investigation in July, citing 154 customer complaints about exhaust in Ford Explorers model years 2011 through 2015.
But CBS News discovered that’s grown to more than 450 complaints, some involving 2016 and 2017 models, which are not part of NHTSA’s investigation.
Might be why they are selling Chevrolets and triggering Ford fanboys.

If you include
fuel consumption
maintenance costs
durability
cargo volume
interior space
depreciation value
etc
The Tahoe is the best choice

Hope so. They are driving around in minivans that leak carbon monoxide into the cabin.
Ford should have kept making the Crown Vic for taxis and police fleets. Those things were slow as hell, but easy to repair and fairly durable.
