you also have CINC, TROs, etc

99% of court matters are closed until May 4 (as of today)

for all intents and purposes, they're closed

they have been working on it here and fast-tracked it due to COVID. it's actually a system very similar to the one i used for TX e-filing

i didn't use it though b/c i was filing into a matter that wasn't in the database so there was a possibility of frickery and tomfoolery

i think JP has had it for a while

LASC needs to move this way but we have too many rural clerks who would be lost

The cost are born on the insurance carrier who decides whether this is a viable WC case or not. By practice, in instances like illness contracted in the workplace, carriers almost always deny and place the burden on the claiment to prove the connection. The carrier absorbs the legal cost if challenged

If I can have a client remotely appear from the prison to enter a guilty plea, which I can, I'm not sure I'm willing to acquiesce to that categorization

A big reason everything shut down in the first place was the fear of lawsuits.

When the lawyers go back full tilt the traffic on the OT will take quite a hit, though.

I wouldn't doubt your prediction that lawsuits will be filed. There will be at least one attorney or firm who will go after someone. But, it is also predictable that somebody is going to do something really stupid that merits them being sued.

I don't agree that this is the "biggest barrier" to opening business back up.

The real boon will be for lawyers who practice bankruptcy.

B.S. Lawyers didn't start this crap, doctors did. But lets go ahead and blame everything on lawyers. Everyone hates lawyers, until they need them.

Some are fishing for nurses who were forced to work by a hospital and contracted the virus.

How many lawsuits have you seen where transmission of illness was the cause of action?

The legislature is already looking at options - two proposed bills of which I am aware - that makes contraction of COVID a compensable "occupational disease" subject to a presumption of causation based upon "essential worker" status. But, the claim will be worth worth little, since you may only miss a few days of work and minimal medical, unless your case goes pear-shaped.

But, I can tell you that workers' compensation attorneys on both sides are burning up brain cells on this issue.
