On the weekends he's not with us and needs something, he'll likely drive his mom's car.

Lexus is 350

This has been on the top of my list for a while....but i read a few reviews where it was pretty bland...

We had a 2004 Acura TSX a few years back and that car was really cool. Fun to drive, really good fit, great features for the year, relatively luxurious but not ostentatious. Outgrew it when we had kids though.

Acuras are nice.

A 25k honda accord would be good enough imo.
This.

Have bought all of these car models (Acura RL) for my kids.

For a High School-aged kid I'd go more like a 5-6 year-old car with < 75k on it.

Safe and reliable but in case they tear it up, not much of a loss.

OP: Do NOT buy a High School kid a new car.

I bought each of my kids a new Accord sedan in their Junior years of undergraduate study.

The car is not for the kid, it's for him to drive.

Under 40k entry price for used.

Over 40k exit price for maintenance. NAH.

If you’re near an Alfa dealer, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is the best looking and driving sedan available.

I’d also look at the Genesis G70/80, Kia Stinger, or a Mercedes Benz C class if it fits the budget.

If you own a mustang I automatically hate you and you're the worst driver on the road

Accords are great cars. My GF has a 2016 fully loaded and car is fantastic for the price.

If you want a little more luxury I'm a big Cadillac or Lexus fan. Just such nice leather in those.

Buy him a used car/truck less than $10K for his first vehicle. Preferably one that breaks down often so he can learn how to perform basic auto repairs. I've saved so much money in the past thirty years simply because I know how to work on my own vehicles.

This. You can find old POS Jeeps for under this as well.

Even accepting the dumb deep south misconception about Subarus, the WRX is far from a lesbian car.

You have had plenty of generic daily driver answers but I will tell you what I would do in your situation.

I would call Eric at EAG in Cincinnati and tell him I want a 100%, low milage, E46 M3 coupe with a manual. It is too old to look pretentious and if you enjoy a driver's car you will grin every time you get behind the wheel and especially when you shift at 8 grand.

If cars don't trip your trigger then get an ES or a Camry and be done with it.
