If you earn enough to not get a check, you’ve earned enough to have built an emergency fund.

And are you are implying that folks who get a check aren’t the above things?

Pills, they’re doing pills.

Also, it’s not those kids fault their parents are a piece of shite. So if those kids need help, you’re willing to go ahead and let them get sick/go hungry?

I completely understand your sentiment, 100%. But it’s a thin line because a lot of small babies will be involved, to no fault of their own.

$100k seems like a pretty low arbitrary cutoff - and its not even that much money

Turns out most businesses are living paycheck to paycheck just like people.

Consumerism isn’t necessarily a good thing to base an economy on

Well those not getting a check shouldn’t need one to begin with as they are doing pretty well and are in the to 10-15% of income earners.

So making over 72k a year as a single person is 10%-15% of income earners? Over that amount doesn't get any stimulus

One thing I haven't figured out yet is whether those who did the "smart" thing at the advice of the student loan "experts" 20 years ago and consolidated federal student loans into a single federal student loan will be hosed because they are now owned by a bank. Yes I should have paid these off long ago, but I was putting cash into investments before the previous government aided crash, when mortgage interest rates were about the same as my student loan interest rate. And then I deferred principal payments until recovered.

I feel like so many people around my age (45) were just starting to really thrive and save for retirement after digging out of the ashes of 2008/09 aaaaaand it's gone.

I wouldn’t fret it too much. The Senate proposed bill has little chance of getting House approval.

House and Senate leaders really need to sit down together with equal partisan representation at these meetings to work out something.

Yeah, but you don't think the guy making 100k living who lost his isn't cash strapped?

There is a good chance he is.

I agree. I initially thought it’d be more in the 200k range

I won’t be getting one and don’t particularly need/mind. However I have a problem with blanket payoffs. This is basically a bribe to keep the hordes at bay while politicians figure out ways to take more freedoms and run up our debt further.

If people who have been laid off need upgraded unemployment benefits then I’m ok with that with some Government assistance but mailing out checks to everyone under a certain income threshold is like shooting a 12 gauge at a gnat

It will come back. We are fairly close in age and I'm not sweating the market much right now. I've been doing a little buying.

It can be disheartening for sure, and the idea of handing out money to people is absurd to me. 95% will be wasted and not used for it's intended purpose.

I guess the question is... if their parents have been unemployed their whole lives and already living off the government.. how has their situation changed? Is giving pieces of shite $3200 a good use of tax payer funds?

I’m starting to think that many people don’t understand the concept of a stimulus program.

You’ll get some money - it’s just not coming straight from the government. More cash in the system = more cash in your pocket - it just won’t happen immediately. That’s why you’ve worked hard your how life and built up savings/emergency fund. Now you can survive through the hard times till the stimulus package reaches your bank.
