Or maybe people just want nice shite. And what’s wrong with being materialistic?

It’s insane to me how many new automobiles are made and purchased every year.

The current mindset that a person needs a new vehicle very 4-5 years is not a healthy one and reeks of our disposable and materialistic economy and mindset.

No they don't save and the auto industry does not want you to. Neither do the lending institutions. Thus you have promotions like 0/0 and over reliance on the FICO score. We talk about a social credit system in this country coming like China.....guess what? We've had one for 30+ years and it is run by three companies Experian, TransUnion and Fair/Isaac.

I sell cars and nobody thinks of the poor salesman that have to sell this overpriced crap. Yall watch yalls privilege. That being said, the trick to selling in this market is as soon as the customer walks on the lot you got to hate them.

When those same people bitch about all their debt and want the government (taxpayers) to pay for it.

That’s just not true at all. Most wealthy people will take on a reasonable degree of leverage. Especially in the current low interest, high inflation environment

At the right interest rate. That being said, I can never seem to find those bankers offering 2% interest.

Bought a brand new vehicle.

Paid for it all that day without financing.

Screw that. I have no car payment and never will. I buy low mileage used cars and pay cash.

Americans are so fricking easily duped by faux luxury and the "keeping up with the Jones" arms race.

Unless you're very wealthy, you aren't buying "nice shite." You're buying fake luxury shite and doing it on a constant basis to feel better about ourselves.

Hard to find anything decent like that under $25-30k in this market. My personal threshold is around $550 for a vehicle note.

That's true. If the used car dealer wasn't a family friend it would be difficult.

Just look at the types of cars you see on the road and how much they cost new or gently used.

Then think about the median family household salary.

It doesn't make mathematical sense.

Yep, I'm downsizing in this market.

Learning to repair, tolerate and do without.

Wow. This is going to be an unpopular opinion because soooo many people dont blink to drop 80K on a vehicle and finance it for a fricking eternity, but this type of spending is only slightly less damaging to your personal finances than 5 figure credit card debt.

You have an asset thats a net negative on your balance sheet almost immediately and a massive cash flow anchor. And for what? So you can drive around town fooling exactly no one?

I live in an apartment complex next to the Dallas projects. You should see the $90k+ cars all the kangz and queenz that live here drive. Their car payments are probably as much as their share of rent.

Seems like no one can live without heated and cooled seats, massage, and other shite they never use. All you see if Platinum, limited, or King Ranch. No XLT.
