She would have to do better than 3 mph for 16 hours per day, Allowing eight hours of sleep/breaks per day. For 40 straight days.
That’s the most impressive part about it and most questionable to me. Your body would just get absolutely worn down from 50+ miles for that long.
If you truly did this, I’d assume you build in some major rest days? Do say 75 miles a couple days and the next days do 25 for 1/3 day and rest the rest of the time? 8 hours of sleep wouldn’t be enough for 54 miles a day for that long either. Your body would just be exhausted

Ultra events are where women are the most competitive relative to men. Ive heard it's due to body composition and fat storage
On a side note...after just having visited WDW and not being a roller coaster rider; so plenty of time for people watching ...if the above is true, then there are people that can take that Appalachia trail run on down through the Andes ( it's depressing seeing the lack of discipline in America )

posters acting like this is for sure fake just because she is a woman just dont know what they are talking about. like you said, ultra events have the most parity between the sexes of any competitive athletic event. even in the regular marathon, the difference in the world records between men and women isnt THAT much.
it's not like comparing weightlifting or a sport like basketball or something. totally different.

Jesus. 15 miles a day in terrain would have you thinking you were an athlete. 54? That’s otherworldly.

The reason for this is because all the real men that could smash the record know that the plant would shut down if they took off this many shifts
The only “men” competing in this are email job soys and male teachers that don’t coach football

This would be a supported run. Unsupported is just you, solo, carrying all your shite
I’m not knocking her. This is a helluva feat whether supported or unsupported. But is there a different category for unsupported? There ought to be.
Also to those who criticize her for speed hiking or running it: I’m sure, being a guide, she has done her fair share of taking it easy and taking in the sights and sounds on the AT.

She should have done it northbound like a man and ended on the most difficult stretch after a month of running.

Not gonna lie: this was the first thing that crossed my mind.

No, 40 days to run 54 a day. Two marathons a day for 40 days straight.
Let's do a little math. Let's assume she is hiking 14 hours per day, 2 hours for crapping, eating and setting up camp and 8 hours sleeping.
54 miles/14 hours = 3.86 miles per hour.
She is running about 15 minute miles for 54 miles per day.

She’s not setting up her own camp on a supported trek. And I doubt she’s sleeping 8 hours. Though that would be optimal for recovery.

i think there almost certainly is a category for solo unsupported.

exactly! people are acting like she had never been on the trail and then suddenly went out and dashed through the whole thing. she is probably already super familiar with the entire trail, which would be almost a prerequisite for setting a record like this

It's a supported run so I'm assuming she had people ahead setting up camp at set milestones so her food, hydration, etc was all handled. Still impressive as all hell that she kept that pace for 40 days. I'm wondering if she busted arse a few days to be able to mostly rest on others. I have no idea how training for something like this would be handled. The most impressive part to me is the mental strength to keep pushing that long.

That ain't a flat 54 miles either. I've been following a guy hiking the AT since last Christmas, he started norhtbound then flip flopped and headed back south. He's averaging about 18 miles/day, and that still looks like it would be tough. Captain Jack

Is the speed record for women or the speed record overall?

It's the monotony that would kill me.
I know once you get to the PA area, you start going through towns and stuff. But I would go crazy in the Virginia section.
