If you're running the trail it seems like that would increase your chances of running up on a bear.

Also, trying to complete the trek as fast as possible sort of defeats the purpose of hiking. I'm only a casual hiker, but I like the slower pace and communing-with-nature thing.

Is this one of the speed runners that had a team, stayed in RVs, and had other assistants? It's extremely impressive to trail run that quickly and that long, but these speed runners doing the longer trails with huge modern conveniences need to be put in different categories.

They usually do. This would be a supported run. Unsupported is just you, solo, carrying all your shite

Maybe I’m crazy, but she doesn’t really look like she’s in good enough shape to cover 54 miles for 40 consecutive days

You're comparing two completely different things.

Ultra runners eat pop tarts and drink cokes while they're on the run. Don't let them fool you.

That's impressive, but at that rate she didn't get to see much of it. Which is kind of the point of the trail.

Extremely impressive if she legit did this, pretty damn questionable to be faster than men especially in an endurance event like this.

ETA: for the downvoters please share some other stories where women have the speed records over men

I've known a couple of ultra runners, and while one did look like David Goggins, multiple of them just looked like normal athletic people. My cousin looks completely normal but was able to step in on less than a weeks notice and help with a team ironman when one of his friends went down with an ankle injury. They are just built different.

I assume that a fair amount of the trek was uphill which makes such a pace quite improbable.

She has the typical look of ultrarunners

Ultrarunners use up so many calories, they aren't going to be muscular

which would be a direct contradiction. BabyTac loves attention - just look at all the mindless drive she posts here

The Appalachian Trail is commercial enough already. I really wish these people looking for self-recognition would pick another trail for events like this.

I thought about doing this but realized it would be far easier to just beat myself with a baseball bar, roll through some broken glass and then take a cold dip in alcohol..

Seriously, I have hiked several chunks of the hike over years and there are sections like the Presidential range and 100 mile wilderness which are brutal on the body. At that speed the downhills would beat your legs down,

Pretty impressive, if verified. That's not easy terrain to move that fast

She would have to do better than 3 mph for 16 hours per day, Allowing eight hours of sleep/breaks per day.

For 40 straight days.

Seems unlikely

She’s sponsored by the same shoe company who sponsors my 15-min mile trail “runs.” I mean, mine isn’t technically a “sponsorship.” But close—I put the sticker that came in the shoebox on my rooftop cargo box.

I'd be surprised. The were a lot of people involved and they'd all have to be in on it. It's probably legit.

I thought it was intended as an entendre of sorts (40 days o trail stank).
