This. I renewed a couple of weeks ago using the chat. $60 one time payment for 12 months, $73 after taxes and fees.

I’m waiting for the time they call my bluff.
My radio pretty much stays on the Beatles channel exclusively. I don’t really listen to anything else on XM.

This worked for me as well. Hopefully, Channel 27 is back to being Deep Tracks tomorrow. Rolling Stones radio didn't do it for me.

With Apple Music, you can download music for offline use, I do this at my hunting camp that has no cell service.
I don't have apple music, but I do have a SAMSUNG phone that I can put an SD card in and listen of any of the 20,000+ songs I have on it.
But that does me ZERO good when I want to listed to a football game or Nascar race in the middle of nowhere.

Got rid of XM a couple of years ago

I love XM radio. Mandatory Metallica made my Friday drive from Houston great. A 2.5 hour live show from Germany 2005. I was playing the air drums and air guitar the entire way.
I like Duff Mckagens show too but he tries to hard to make his wife a part of it. It’s kinda weird but the music is great.

I went to activate my subscription and a free trial month on my new to me car. They wanted my social security number to activate it. No thanks.

After a week of negotiating I got them down to $1/month for 12 months

I used the website last year and it is much easier. I wish I knew about it sooner.

Mandatory Metallica is well worth it right now.

Too many free streaming options to put up with their non-sense. Their business model is to make money on those that forget to call back in after the initial 6/12 months. It's bullshite and they know it.
People will get tired of it eventually and they'll go away.

Did this earlier this year. Threatened to cancel 3 subscriptions. They lowered the cost of what we had going.

Thanks for the reminder on this btw. I have a sub for my wife that they just bumped the pricing on. Working through the chat now.
Edit: Logged in to the online account to cancel. It forces you to chat with an agent in order to cancel. Went through the cancel process and they pitched the $8.95 per month as the cheapest option. I pushed back and told them it was either the $60 for the year or cancel. They caved. $59.43 for 12 months. Now I just have to set myself a reminder to check it in 12 months.
Edit 2: Not sure it made a difference, but I did mention to them in chat that I was already paying for apple music and was finding it hard to justify paying for this too.

Or you could just ask what deals they have. They know you aren’t canceling.
I am serious when I make the threat. Between YouTube and pandora and audiotapes I can live without XM. And I told the lady that last time. She got scared and gave me the deal in a hurry.

I honestly am unsure how they are still turning a profit, no way they last long
I agree with this. On my annual song and dance with threatening to cancel, I let them know that there are too many other options out there to listen to commercial free music.
I have an extensive music library on my phone with several playlists suited to my mood. Then there are free services from Pandora and Spotify.
So I have no issue with cancelling unless they go down to the $5/month which they always do.

Man it's a pain in the arse when you do though
"buddy buddy buddy listen I know how it works but I'm telling you I am 100% cancelling no need for the routine this time, I sold my car I don't need it so can we please please please just cut to the real cancellation part I promise I'll be back one day there is nothing you can do to change my mind right now"
"I'm sorry to hear that Mr. Pettifogger and of course i can help you terminating your service I just need a few pieces of information. While the computer loads let me ask you would a circa-2005 in home bedside table Sirius radio be of interest to let you keep listening to all your favorite shows and sports outside of the vehicle"

Still better than the alternative of terrestrial radio. I enjoy the tour coverage and KMOT. Breed is OK in the mornings as are Gravy and Sleeze. I turn it off otherwise. But there are enough other channels to make it worthwhile IMO.
To your point tho, I’m not crazy about the commercials at all.
