What's the latest freebie for a new or renewed subscription? Google mini?

I canceled both cars in July after having XM for a decade. I don't really miss it, except driving to football games & listening to other games.

Too many people talking on all the music channels and commercials for other XM channels on commercial free channels. Less and less music and thinner playlists. Also, Howard Stern became broken by Trump and Covid. Completely unfunny.

Sometimes they don't feel like playing. This was me last year:

"This is too expensive.. I'm gonna go ahead and cancel..."

"OK. We're sorry to see you go but we'll go ahead and process your request. Thanks for being a customer of Sirius/XM for so long. Have a good day..(click)."

I pay 4.99 a month for each car. Have been for a couple of years. Just before it expires I call and request same rate. Never had an issue. 5 minute call and I’m good for another year

I always just tell them I re-upped it last time but won't miss it if it's gone, so if they can get me the same deal then I'll play ball and otherwise they can cancel me. It's never not worked, and I usually pay $30-40 for six months (or double for a year). I also always call back and have them cancel the automatic re-up on my credit card...it's funny to me that the person you re-up with can't do that, but if you call back they will do it.

I've been around Sirius since about 2014, and have always found this to be true:
quote:

Less and less music and thinner playlists.

I've noticed several times where I will get out of my car at the store listening to one song, and then ten minutes later on my way home they'll play the same song. One time I was listening to the 90s channel and they played Alanis Morissette's Head Over Feet twice in a three-song span.

And as with any Sirius thread, I will take this chance to bash Meg Griffin. I absolutely loathe her and can't stand DJs like her who think that people want to hear what they hvae to say rather than the music. I mainly have to deal with her on the Beatles channel, which is my main go-to, and the other day she talked for a minute and a half. No music, just her talking about some bullshite that nobody in the world cares about. Just play the music, stupid. Nobody wants to hear you try to relive your glory days on the fricking radio. I irrationally hate her, and find myself changing the channel more times than not.

And what's funny is I've tried to find stuff online to see if I am the only person who feels like this, but any time I try to search for negative things about "meg griffin," all I get is Family Guy shite.

There wasn't a better feeling than when I cancelled that shite for good last year. The service is fine, but I got so tired of dealing with their customer service over the promotional offers and my bill being jacked up every 6 months. It was just a hassle that I didn't have time for.

I did the song and dance bullcrap yesterday. My sub is up in a few weeks for 2 cars, and I chatted with them about deals that I had seen, wanting to lock in.

They told me: (paraphrasing, I should have copied/pasted)
Hi, what deals do you have for basic service? I don't want Platinum any more, I don't want to support Howard Stern any longer.
I'm sorry to hear that, why do you not want to support Howard Stern?
He used to be about fart jokes and prank phone calls, but now everything is political and it's not funny. If I want politics, I'll listen to a political show.
I'm sorry to hear that, he definitely has caused controversy lately with some of his statements. You could contact the show (inserted contact info).
Yeah, I'm sure they will read it and care, lol.

What stations do you listen to most?
Used to be Howard, but mostly music and sports. I do listen to podcasts, too.
You will need Platinum to keep the sports you want.
Crap. What is the best deal you have?
Sir, we can offer you $12.99/month.
Wait, is that per radio?
Yes.
No way, I've seen deals for $6/month. I paid $120-ish for two radios for an entire year. Why would I agree to that price?
Well sir, since you have been a loyal customer since 2005 (actually have been a customer since they started, that's another story), we can offer you $11.99.
You have to be kidding, right? I live in Atlanta, we have tons of radio stations, I have Amazon Music for free. I have Apple Music for free with my phone. Podcasts are free. There are so many options now. Look, I have to go now to pick up kids from bus. Please turn off auto renew and my account can be canceled on 10/7.
*closed the window*

Received confirmation of cancellation email. I know I'll probably go crawling back when the offer arrives, but I am sick of the fricking game.

I worked for a streaming media company in Seattle when this company went online. I was one of the FIRST customers, as we were working on the guts for streaming servers and building a UI into our platform to access the content, as well as a team working on digital rights management. This was 2001-ish. I was the guy that took his Starmate and moved it between vehicles, to a boom box, or to my desk. Every damn year... promo ends, raise the rates, do the dance, get the promo. For almost 20 years. I'm just over it. There are maybe 4 music stations I even listen to, I don't need 100. I can also just play my music from any other service without having to hear DJs. Wasn't that the whole point of satellite radio in the first place?

Next time log in online. Open the chat and just simply tell them to reapply the discount. They always do it no questions asked.
