Copper Sulfate ...It works, treat half the surface area now the other half in a month, the algae will disappear and the fish will live, repeat applications may be necessary in the future, talking thousands, maybe tens of thousands, but no where near millions of dollars

Right. Just estimate the volume and scoop enough copper sulfate to reach 0.2 ppm and the algae issue will be gone and the fish and birds will be safe.

BREC has refused to publicly put forth any money.

Why? Because it's not something they control?

Kinda surprised BREC doesn't already have purview over the lake.

It’s really a shite show. Is the shite on the lakes going to keep all the pelicans from stopping by this year? That pelican migration is awesome. They would be here in just a few weeks.

BREC has been hoarding money for years now, allegedly to save up for a new zoo.

While BREC owns some lake frontage with parks, it doesn’t have control over the whole thing.

The best thing fore the LSU lakes are to sheet pile around the shores and muck it out until clay is reached. I would estimate that's 6 to 8 feet.

I think BREC etc are playing games by not treating it, they want more money to go with their master plan etc, if the lake is a big eyesore they might get some $$help, if they treat it and it looks normal no one will vote for more taxes

Here are instructions on how to maintain small lakes and ponds. It's done all the time. This is no big deal.

Artist’s conception is always best case scenario.

They don’t paint a bunch of rednecks listening to Jimmy Buffett on a boom box or a bunch of black guys with pants at their knees listening to someone “rapping”.

Probably this. I’m surprised there isn’t a tax increase/renewal for BREC already on the October ballot

and the problem with the grass carp is that they are suppose to be sterile, but not guaranteed, a few out of a hundred start producing offspring and soon you will be over run with the damn things, and they do not stop at eating algae, they start eating all the vegetation and the "good" fish out of house and home and soon you have nothing but grass carp

Copper Sulfate

It's probably reflective of the crowd (in composition and numbers) that would show up to something like a small symphony outdoor concert in BR, though.

BREC also uses its funding for Pro EBR Advertisement on the radio in an attempt to counter the St George Movement.

As opposed to what we have now?

Yeah introducing these fish is going to go horribly.

Maybe they could just drain the goddamn things during the "dry" season and start over. Is that a thing?

Its not like it is some vast ecosystem with endangered animals that need to be protected. Probably find some bodies down there too

ETA:

And I don't mean completely empty them, but maybe break a lake wall down and let the top 3-4 feet of water flow into the sewer system or something.

Give the lakes to BREC and make them implement the BR lake master plan. Close the zoo and make them burn the renovation plans for it.

I was thinking along the same lines. It's fricking useless to dig it out if they aren't going to try things to keep it from just filling back in.

That’s because it’s an artist’s concept of the City of St. George.
