an hour lunch break is overkill and a waste of time...

shorten the break or not take a full break at all and shorten the workday completely.

Industrial engineering has settled that taking break and lunch leads to overall greater productivity.

You can't get served a real lunch and eat it in 30 minutes. Not talking two tacos.
Sitting down. Ordering. Calm. Eating. Walk or drive back.

They had flex time at my last job. Anything from 6 am to 6 pm. 8 hours. Take as long as you need for lunch or MD appointment.
Badge in. Badge out. Badge in. Badge out. All by computer.
I got in before 6. Lunch. Go to gym or take long walk with friends. Pick up my Chinese on way back. Eat. Badge in.

I work as long as it takes to get the work done. Sometimes it’s 12 hours days most times it’s around 8 hours with an hour lunch.

I’ll take no lunch and get off an hour earlier vs taking an hour lunch and getting off an hour later 10/10 times

People actually go out to eat for lunch every work day?

This is the case for most professions, perhaps minus the regular lunch routine

I just gave up working 4 10s. Three day weekends were nice but I wasn't left with much free time during the week.

I think something like 4 9s and a 4 would be great. With the flexibility to do 4 10s and be off on Friday when needed.

Can get a lot done on that 3rd day off.

I have a concrete construction business and we do 4 10s. We leave the office at 5:45 and knock off at 4:30 with a 45 minute lunch. It works best for us because it allows our guys another day of rest rather than having to come in a fifth day to do nothing.

That cold calling though

Actually no, just assist the people that sell. But there are only 4 and they are huge life insurance policies, not the AAA you buy online.

11-7? I'd rather be in early and leave early. I'd go in at 7 if I could.

Still too long. The 8 hour work day was introduced in the early 1900s and hasn't been revisited since on a widespread basis. With the increase in technology allowing us to work faster, work day could easily be 8-2, 9-3 or less.

Former oilfield baw, when I was roughnecking during the summers, crews worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week. My first day on the job my crew was on their 63rd straight work day without a day off. Since making it to the office, I usually work 10-12 hours a day but generally don’t work on weekends.

8-5 has been the norm since I got out of college in the late 90's. I've never had a 9-5 job, nor known anyone with a 9-5 job.

The movement I'm seeing is more working from home, flex scheduling, and abbreviated Friday hours. My wife has been working from home every Friday for a couple of years now. Some days that's a full 8 hours, some days it's just fielding a call or two.
