Texas has way too many transplants from outside the region

Way too many people from the West coast and northeast. Be grateful for the transplants from border states like Oklahoma Louisiana and Arkansas. Those are the ones keeping the culture somewhat in tact.
Otherwise it’d be just another transient hodge podge place like Florida.
It’s so bad in the metro areas of Texas you’re almost more likely to meet transplants than Texas natives.

My FIL lives in Austin and it drives him nuts. He says the tech idiots from California made their state unlivable and now they moved to Austin and keep voting for the same shite that ruined where they came from.

The H1Bs are outpacing them by a mile.

In the Houston burbs, we have two basic problems: Indians and Chinese from Sugarland moving North to escape... Sugarland. Second, Indians moving from New Jersey and buying houses for three generations of family and parking 7 cars in a dual driveway Porte de Coche.
They pay way too much, which excites the shite out of the county assessor, and they vote for *every* bond measure or tax increase that mentions a school, in any way, shape or form. Your tax rate will not increase. Great, but the assessment district ups your value at 6-9% every year, so GFY. They sure are bad at math.
Nowhere near as bad as most of the places I've looked at in DFW WRT tax and assessment issues. But they're the reason we are spending money in Fort Bend on a goddamned study to research GONDOLAS to commute from Sugarland into Houston. If this was poli I'd drop more four letter words.

I just met a new neighbor who played baseball at LSU with Ben McDonald. That offsets the rest of the carpetbaggers.

It's only 75k US citizen Texans since 2015 that don't have jobs, any many more with depressed wages because of it.
But Abbott and Cornyn are right on it.
